If the Kid's Crater were to be moved where would it go?
Well, I think Alex has done all he can do to protect the youngin's...
Thank you, Alex.
It's as much as can be done.
Don't get me wrong - I have a huge amount of respect for Alex but erm... what exactly has he done to "protect the youngin's..."?
He put the age limit on the adult forum. I really don't see what else he can do to protect the squeekers for gross stuff.
Most of us act responsibly when it comes to posting stuff, and try to keep the nastiness to a limit, and there will be those who think they can post anything, and between the mods and the age limit on the Adult Forum, I can't see what else he can do. Anything else would put require an exorbitant amount of energy and requirements that would either be ridiculously rigorous or prone to breakdown anyway so any benefit would be lost.
That's why I felt keeping a conversation going on about the kids' forums would be one way of keeping people aware of the kids we do have on here.
I didn't mean he discovered the cure for cancer. He did a lil' somethin', and I was just thanking him for that.
Or were you making a joke? After what happened on that Dr. Who thread with Quatermass, I'm thinking I overread these things.

Well, a re-sort of the forums would (probably) be a few seconds work. It was suggested by others (ie: not my original idea) but I'm happy to support it since the original proponents didn't feel that they were being "listened to".
I'm happy to be told that the work is not going to be done because it's too hard or unlikely to have any reasonable effect. If Alex said, "nope... sorry", I'd say fine.. well, he's considered it and doesn't think it needs doing. Thus far I haven't received a definite "yes" or "no" from him.
(not that I think he owes me anything, it would just be nice).
I'm never entirely serious. Life is too short to be serious about things.
I didn't expect Quatermass to take anything personally - he's someone I have a huge amount of respect for and I'd never intentionally harm him. I just started wondering if his replies were serious... it took a lot of reading between the lines to figure out that he wasn't happy - even when I posted my apology to him, I kept thinking he was going to send a smart remark back.
I'm not at all good at reading people - and nobody seems to get my sense of humor

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Yeah, I'm kind of used to Alex not posting anything. I figure he's looked at it, did what did, and then signed off mentally without telling people. He has quite a life going on right now, so I give him a break for it. I don't know what it takes to do some of this stuff, and the bit he did was all right, and all, but he's funny that way. Things kind of snowball sometimes, and the site goes bonkers, and no sign of Alex. It's like where in the world is Alex?
Then he swoops in, does some stuff, and disappears. Sometimes a quickie comment, sometimes nothing...I'm surprised the mods get hold of him sometimes, but that's in the "real" world I have no access to.
Yeah, the humor thing. I thought the Dr. WHo thing was kind of cute, except Quatermass was posting oddly. Then it became apparent what happened. I thought people were kidding affectionately, because I know there are folks who like Quatermass, I do, yet he was a little put off.
Trying to be funny has back fired on me on line, and off line. At least we can say we defy the stereotype of non-humorous aspies, eh, G?
Actually, I was the one leaving naughty pictures in the Tardis. I so bad.
Hi Pandora,
Glad to see you back.
As far as I can tell, Alex put age restrictions on the forum which weren't there before (I think). That should keep minors out.
Of course, we've had no "official" feedback on the issue but it has got some notice due to problems when it was first installed.
Glad to see you back.

I think there is a bit of a lack of communication about things being done and so it is easy to think no action was taken. That could be the case here.
I was kind of expecting the call from mum any time in the past few months but it was still a bit of a surprise as I'd visited them in the new year and Jim seemed to be getting a little better.
He was diabetic and contracted two antibiotic resistant infections. The hospital was treating one, not realising there was another one and that's what killed him. Mum was sad, but relieved at the same time, since she'd been nursing him at home for several years after he had a series of strokes.

There is an age restriction so people under 17 are unable to view the adult forum.

Until they lie about there age curiousity gets to us all
Who cares onlyway could easily find bad things on the web only takes a few certain words porn comes to mind now excactly rocket science cant do much more to protect the "yougins"
The aim was always to prevent accidental exposure.
If kids want to get to adult material;
a. there's not much that can stop them.
b. do you really think we ought to stop them - better to let them see and offer explanations.
Actually, I was looking at this from a legal standpoint, and one way Alex could CHA.
Too many people blame others for their own kids finding porn on line, and not taking responsibility for monitoring their brats. Then lawsuits can happen. The school district here has put in so many filters and blocks to prevent kids from accessing porn, and because of a lawsuit, and the threat of others. Of course, the computer system is useless because it blocks regular sites and emails, and now parents have to have a special password to get in.
Why not have the minimum protection to protect the owner of the site?
As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason to have kids on line ever through middle school. Not for research, because most of what's out there is crap, and computer games just further atrophy their social skills and behavior, not to mention their health.
R.
I'll be encouraging my kids to go online.
I'm also not planning to hassle them about what they discover - provided that they're not passing things onto their mates or doing anything illegal. If anything, I want them to feel that I'm always approachable for discussion/explanation and that I won't "chuck a fit" when they do something different.
Of course, my youngest is 7 so I've got a way to go yet and will probably change my mind by then.
In the meantime, I don't believe in censorship for censorship's sake.
My kids (particularly my eldest) have watched some fairly adult action movies (not porn, more Terminator, Aliens etc..) - If they had bad dreams or problems, I'd prevent them, if not... fine.
Showing them serial killer movies however is out of the question - because those things are REAL. Aliens aren't - well, not the H. R. Giger type anyway.
Glad to see you back.
