A friend of mine believes that she heard a scientist state, several years ago, that there is proof of living bacteria on Mars. I strongly doubt this. True, or not true?

I believe this is false.

What happen was they found a rock from mars on earth. Thought at first look on the small scale looked like fossil bacteria. But more reserch showed they were wrong. So not likely. Need more data can not say one ways or the other.

If I remember correctly, they found what looked like fossilized bacteria.

The I don't know option is missing. ;)

That is excatly what they did. Although the data has been questioned, something about faulty method of collection and resulting contamination.

Living bacteria is pretty much out of the question though, as there isn't much oxygen on mars anymore.

I seem to remember the same thing about living bacteria on Mars, I swear I heard about the discovery. Perhaps it was shunned and\or covered up due to the religious fanatics\government. Who knows.

Scientists have found a meteorite from mars with fossilized bacteria on it. My brother says scientists know it's from mars because of its rust; and rust doesn't last long in space.
