How is it possible that "only" 600,000 people live in Boston?

Even if the surface area wasn't enough, multiple level buildings would increase living/working space. I often go to Saint Paul, which has about 300,000 people. It's actually fairly nice to be there. People density is low because it is spread out. Minneapolis on the other hand...

Let me also point out that Boston is famous for its part in the teen-drama "Dawsons Creek", that went on to become a mega hit among TV critics worldwide.

Several million people live in the Boston metropolitan area, to which one might also refer as Greater Boston or what have you. 4,455,217, according to a recent US Census estimate. The matter of city limits and what area is counted as belonging which city or county or borough or district or incorporated area is a very confused and inconsistent thing in the US, a reflection of the constant senseless conflict between local and state governments and the federal governmant. The figure of 4,455,217 is just one of several widely-applied measures of the urban area with Boston at its center. None of these measures has official status.
