Claims to an old/lost land

How long a time should pass before the descendants of the lost land finally relinquish their claims?
What if anything should be done to accommodate the descendants?
Should violence be used to accomplish their goals, reclaiming their land?

I find it curious that neo-cons who think that the Jews have a valid 2,000 year old claim to Israel don't think that the descendants of slaves should have a claim for damages from slavery that ended in the 1860s (or from another century of Jim Crow and other forms of institutional racism designed to hold them back and cause a collapse of their culture). Shouldn't the nation that caused the problem be responsible for fixing it? Shouldn't that responsibility persist until the problem no longer exists??
Black people got their reparations AND their civil rights. I'd say they've been compenated as far as any former slave-race can be compensated. But to be sure the damage inflicted on black culture might never heal.

I just wanted to make that clear, I'm not saying that people deserve reparations, but that we should make the historical events in AMERICAN history clear so people do not confuse fighting for equality with compensation.
I didn't say it's been made all better, did I? Was I not skeptical that the wounds of black slavery would ever heal? Did MLK Jr. accomplish zero during his lifetime? You can tell me that the US history books are all written by white men. Are they? We've certainly moved beyond the days when black folks smuggled themselves into Canada to escape the whips and chains.
But it's still pretty unjust. Tell me about it.

lol no Im just saying there has been no attempt at reparations and that compensation in the true sense of the word has not been used either. I know you know history, but I wanted to point that out before someone who doesnt know starts assuming things.

BET is doing a good job of nullifying his work.
Unfortunately, you're right. And black youth are gobbling it up like candy. Now here is a very cannabilistic culture.
(i think) the problem with that whole thing is that there are not enough positive role models put forward in the media for black people. that and have you ever been to a school in an area with a black majority in the US? it's despicable how little they get in terms of technology and up to date books and educated teachers and how low the bar is set for them.
coming from a black majority city: the schools and the media perceptions are what have kept black people from moving up to their rightful place as equals on a whole. or to put it differently: the effects of slavery, racism, jim crowe, and segregation combined with an inequal chance and being told through media constantly that they're not equal has kept black people, as a whole, back.
so to that extent, i gotta say....we haven't given them ANYTHING in regards to making up for sins past and the system actively works right now to keep more down. and screw affirmative action, that's only negative re-enforcement saying that they wouldn't be able to earn it on their own.

Close. I was watching a film about Native Americans and how they were badly treated. I figured I make this thread as ambiguous as possible to see where the people would lead it to.
