My 3 year old daughter has ASD. She is usually pretty easy going for someone with her DX but whenever we would go into Target or the grocery store she would get increasingly agitated until she would finally go into complete meltdown. I thought she just didnt like shopping until I watched a lecture from Temple Grandin on youtube. She said if you notice your child having a tantrum in wal mart it could be that they have a light sensitivity. My daughter tends to be more hypo sensitive than otherwise so the thought never occured to me. I suppose it should have due to the fact that I have AS and have light sensitivites.....DUH. So now we both wear sunglasses when we go shopping....and we are both happier :D .

I once sat down in the aisle of a grocery store and just sobbed. I had no idea what was happening at the time. ( I was in my 40's) but I had hated shopping all my life and that day was no exception. Now, years later, with the understanding of my DX, I can wear my foam ear plugs, sunglasses and have a detailed list of where things are as well as what I want.

By any chance does you walmart also try to use natural lighting with the lights flickering on whenever a cloud passes the sky winow, and flickering off as soon as the sun shines through that window again?

Triangular trees is very correct.

Florescent lightening borders on evil,
and it is likely to be in your house, in a form that isn't obvious.

Your computer monitor.

as a general rule, crt type monitors are set to a refresh rate of 60 hertz.
This matches the rate at which the florescent light blinks.

They can be slightly out of sync, and cause blinking.
the blinking is generally more noticable when the screen is a white background.

This blinking can cause eyestrain, trigger miagrains or seziers....

Generally this problem can be resolved by changing the monitor refresh rate, to a value
which is not a multiple of 60 hertz.

in my case i used 73 hertz, and I no longer have the problem.

NOPE! US ones USED to be at 60 hertz for cheap ones. Newer ones are FASTER. They HAVE to be to allow for higher resolution and a faster phospher. They ARE different, anyway!

Of course, the backplane on LCD displays generally runs at 50hz!

NOPE! Incandescent flicker at 60Hz(US) 50Hz(Europe) Florescent vary on MANY factors. Frankly, I don't like florescent AT ALL!

Did you know SOME states in the US MANDATE that some lights be florescent!?!?!? The laundry room, kitchen worklights, and closets, in my home are ALL florescent.
