death metal will be the new gregorian chant.

Death Metal and Gregorian Chant are as far removed in terms of musical style as you can get. The Chanting of Gregorian monks is soft, spiritual, pleasantly eerie. Death Metal is a very literal wall of noise. A living, bellowing, shrieking, scratching, grinding wall of noise. Noise, noise, noise. It's godawful, but it is a great way to destroy your eardrums.

and actually if you look at it, the monotonous nature of death metal very much resembles the monotonous limited counterpoint of gregorian chant. i mean what kind of losers are afraid of parallel fourths??!?!?

so it was kinda drawing from two distinctly different sounds while still having some (though very little) in common. just think of the drone notes in commonality.

edit: not to mention extensive use of parallel fifths and the pentatonic scales in both.

Assuming, of course, that he is an actual monk.

it was fun but i'd say i didn't get much out of it professionally.

I think Death Metal would be a little too loud for any church service. If it makes your eardrums burst like cherry tomatos, it's too damn loud.

I'm not old at all. I'm still under 30. I'm just one of those Aspies who can't tolerate anything loud and does not wish to lose his hearing.

I saw this yesterday; that monk is an awesome fellow.

Anyone who thinks he's playing death metal though has a hopelessly innocent bearing on modern music.
