Should people be helpful, or is it a complete waste of time. I have always tried to be helpful, here on WP but sometimes its neither wanted or appreciated, would it be better just not giving a f@&k.

Sometimes it is better. It really depends on the methodology of both. Not caring, or even letting bad happen can sometimes be the most necessary thing.

Why not?

People find things to complain about all the time. It's to be expected.

There is something to be said for being a helpful team player at work or in your free time setting bear traps along the border, but when it comes to helping strangers I use the "30 second rule", which I may occasionally stretch all the way to a minute. This means I might momentarily hold a door open or pick up something someone has dropped, or quickly change the diaper of an elderly person, as long as it doesnt take too long. I like to do favors for people, as long as I can hurry and be done with it, and then go on about my own business.

Did you hear about the boy-scout who was arrested for helping a little old lady cross the street? Seems she didn't want to go.

Helping people is great as a general idea. When do you do it, how far do you go? That sometimes gets tricky.

I agree that it depends on the metholodology, it might be well intentioned, but it wouldn't be the best way of helping someone, I think that sometimes living people alone, can be a way of helping them. Here in WP, it is difficult to say, if some friendship has had developed here, then it could be applied to it, I think.

Some people are morons, so letting them fail where it doesn't matter can be kind.

On WP it is hard to say though, I will agree.

It must be an aspie trait of mine, I do like to help people, and don't really expect anything in return, if its broke, its like I have to fix it, its kind of odd behavior, but I have been like this most of my life, unfortunately, I also end up fixing friends and family's computers, while not getting paid for my services. I am a kind of a silly f**k.

Well, the issue is just trying to assert yourself in a manner as to be a friend rather than a doormat. Just ask for favors in return or something like that, people are usually somewhat willing to return aid for a person who helps them.

I'm the same way sometimes. I give people freebies if it's something I enjoy and am good at. Howver if someone asks me to do a favor I'm not particularly keen on I try to find a way out of it or ask that they give me something in return. Sometimes it seems confusing to people who don't know me well.
