No, he was making sense. He pointed out that Christianity has not cornered the market on righteous indignation. Christianity doesn't hold a candle to Islam in that department.

I think the one thing I learned from organized religion is that I'm against it.

I never understood "fear God" and at the same time that God was forgiving.

I didn't understand why the Pastor at our church HATED me, and acted hateful toward me.

I do believe in God however, and had formed my opinions before this pastor got to me. I realized he wasn't something special, but someone who did a job and we aren't all experts at the job we do :)

I don't believe you need to go into a church to Believe in God.

I don't think it matters what one wears or where one sits to Believe in God.

I don't think it matters how well you sing, or whether you can memorize Bible passages.

What I do think it's all about is being a good person, treating others as well as you can, doing your best, and being honest with yourself.

everyone's welcome to have their pretend friends. it's just a matter of when you start denying reality and creating unhealthy mental attitudes that i take exception to.

also when you start making up laws to appease the imaginary friend...that's pretty lame too.

To them, you are the one denying reality.

yeah, i'm running around telling people that condoms don't work and that the only solution is to take a cold shower and tie it up.

and for "them" to have a leg to stand on there, they'd need proof first which doesn't exist.

you're intellectually vacuous. that same statement could be reversed into "ONLY ISLAMIC CULTURES EXIST".

and that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that a partially exposed breast is no big deal and no one was harmed other than some idiot parents who may have blushed...and we all know blushing leads straight to black tar heroin, wife beating, and pedophilia. which, coincidentally, is what partially exposing breasts to small children accomplishes as well. which explains why i can't walk down the street without seeing some kid being penetrated violently and seeing kids carrying their prolapsed rectums all over the place.

or, you know, people's reaction was just absurd and reflects an unhealthy impression of sex on the general (christian) population.

and if you wanna bow down to islam as being the supreme set of morals, you're welcome to head out to afghanistan and blow yourself up. i won't miss you.

Condoms don't work 100% of the times, a cold shower and tying it up probably does. Or is this a case of blind, pro-condom, faith?

blind faith? what kind of crack are you on? there are test and we know the fail rates of condoms. blind faith is an invisible man in the sky with no proof other than a few books and a bunch of holier than thou a**holes saying you're going to hell if you don't listen to them.

have you ever even used a condom? you certainly sound like you've never strapped one on before.

not really. you can't prove a negative. i can point out all the ways in which there is no verifiable data to show there is a deity but burden of proof falls on those making a claim of something's existence.

Dear waste of DNA:

I was pointing out that Muslim societies are every bit as or even more repressed than Western societies. Anyone not a moron got that.

ah....the argument to lowered standards.

so, you wanna say that every kid who scored a 50 should pass because some other kid flunked with a 35? sorry that logic doesn't hold up...at all.

"THEY DO WORSE SO IT'S OKAY THAT I DO POORLY!!"

uh..no. the point is to achieve and over-achieve. raise the bar; don't lower it.

Wow. I think I've made Skafather's point way too many times. "They do worse so it's okay that I do poorly." I make that argument constantly.

Okay, this is a pet peeve of mine. Abstinence only education leads to ignorance and unplanned pregnancies. Condoms do work. Safe sex is safer than unsafe sex. You would think that that statement wouldn't need to be said, but apparently people don't get it. Telling people to not have sex largely doesn't work. Telling people that masturbation, sex, sexual thoughts, wet dreams, arousal, and anything else vaguely related is bad will not make people stop having sex. Under the Bush administration, abstinence only education (can you really call that education?) has gone up, and real sex ed has gone down. STDs and pregnancies have gone up. If people would quit polarizing the issue so much, and let the facts be neutral, we wouldn't have such problems. Instead of trying to prove condoms are evil or that abstinence doesn't work, let's get the facts out. Yeah, it's pretty hard to get pregnant if you don't have sex. Possible, (rape, and apparently Mother Mary) but hugely unlikely. The numbers on condom effectiveness are between 95 and 99% effective. Encourage people to hold off on sex until they're ready, and inform them that they could avoid pregnancy and STDs for when they are ready. Seems simple.

But for some strange reason, religious types tend to demonize this information. That and evolution seem to be popular targets for the religious right. I'm with Skafather, you guys can have your beliefs. That's fine, I don't really care. In fact, good for you if you find something that works for you. I mean that sincerely. However, when your beliefs start running contrary to verifiable fact, or your beliefs start getting legislated so that I have to follow them too, then I've got a problem with it.

Skafather is right, the massive sexual repression in this country (US, but this applies to many others) is due largely, if not entirely, to Christianity. It is patently unhealthy.

This puzzles me.

I guess if the high schools taught REAL sex ed to their students, they'd think it might come across to the kids as endorsement and invitation to premarital sex. So they withhold the knowledge, apparently. I think it's so much better to provide them with the sex ed knowledge and then let the kids make their own deicisions. Distributing condoms in igh schools may not exactly encourage abstinency-till-marriage, but the fact is the kids are going to have sex no matter what. It's human nature.

Even though your high school administration is throwing condoms at you, explaining sex to you, despite all the hormones and peer-pressure, it's still possible to choose for yourself. Some don't think at all and jump into bed with the first Joe or Jane to come along. Some think about it for a while. Are STDs, rape and teenage pregancy all the result of sex education or a total lack thereof? I don't know if there's a big difference ether way. I think human nature usually wins out when it comes to sex.
