No... stay with me here...
Some time back, I know that various people were experimenting with "skinning" WP. I think this consisted of basically haveing a local CSS file that would override the WP defaults.

The layout your speak of, just "on a blue background", rather than alternating green/blue backgrounds, makes me wonder if you have been using such a local CSS.
Unfortunately, if the detailed generation of pages is changed, this probably invalidates the local CSS, at least in part, leading to strange effects, I'm sure. An upgrade to Firefox 3 may also be causing the problem.
The place to look is in your Firefox's "chrome" directory, where you should just find "userChrome-example.css" and "userContent-example.css". If you find a "userContent.css", you probably should lose it (or rename it in case you want to see what it does).
