Yesterday, Donald Luskin (one of McCain's economic advisers) said the economy is really doing quite well, and anyone who says otherwise is a weak-minded pessimist: housing prices are going up, foreclosures aren't really a problem, banks are basically sound, we are no where close to being in a recession. The idea that times are difficult are purely psychological, my fellow Americans.

I was paraphrasing what McCain's advisor said - I don't agree with it at all. It could be construed as irony - the literal words he spoke are the opposite of what many believe to be true. But some people do believe what he said. Was I being sarcastic? Amazingly, no - although I have disbelief and contempt for what Luskin said, I was simply trying to characterize what he said. Similar to what Phil Gramm said a few months back about America being a nation of whiners when it comes to the economy ... no need to be sarcastic - just quote the man accurately.
