Why are so many people on here wanting their account deleted

It seems to be a fad. I've no clear idea what it is about.

If you don't want your account, don't use it.

Coming in and making a public post saying that you don't want your account is a request for everyone to look at your posts.

Just how many is "so many"?

I think "so many" might be "one"... maybe "two".

At least wp doesn't bombard its users with unwanted email. I was a brief member of another online forum that did that and it was impossible to delete the account or unsubscribe... So I changed my registered email address to a fake address and got rid of them that way.

It does seem strange that so many forums do not have an option to cancel an account - and delete all posts made by that person. Though I guess it could get complicated if a persons posts have been quoted by others.

Someone could say things in posts that they deeply regret later or maybe leaves them open to identity theft or attack or blackmail by others if their real-life identity becomes known and associated with the posts. So there could be a strong case for people having an ability to unsubscribe / delete all their own posts (excluding those quoted by others).

Who owns posts? The poster or the forum owner? There could be some issues there regarding data protection laws that exist in various countries, especially regarding how long the posts are kept.

Now that you mention it ... my email account of registry has been receiving 20 to 30 emails from Nigeria, each one promising a fortune to me if I only reply with all my personal information ... ever since I became a WP member ... hmm ...

I like my username too much. But there's times where I wish I could change my account only b/c of the number of posts in my profile. Many members here think that I'm still a spammer based only by my number. In the past yeah, I had issues with that espeacially in the threadkiller thread. Now I don't have the time and when I do, it's always watch out for MissSpam! !

No. There have been several recently, and not all in this section of the forum. If it had just been oe person, I wouldn't have asked about this trend.

Yes, what copyright laws apply? Those of the poster's home country or those of the country in which the site is hosted?
