Kinsey himself was a closeted homosexual family man, was he not? That may have had something to do with his test results. Or maybe the movie about him, KINSEY, was waaay off. I dunno. I've just seen the move.

1% is not ridiculous - it means that one person in every hundred is homosexual. Heterosexual, like right-handedness, is the norm, so why would that be ridiculous? I'm not saying it is 1%, but saying the possibility is not ridiculous.

Anyways, I'm saying I'll meet you half-way. We live in a society where admitting homosexual inclinations is anathema, so many people remain closeted their entire life, or live a double life (like a certain Senator in a public bathroom)

I'm not even going to click on the links, because I know the source, and they have a vested interest in marginalizing the gay population so they have a red herring to preach against and call sinners.

If I had to estimate, I'd say the figure of queers of all stripes is probably closer to 5-6%, increasing in urban areas and decreasing in rural areas due to the tendency of LGBTQ youth to seek out community.

If you don't think there's that many homosexuals in your community, go sit in the smoking area of your nearest call center, and you can meet most of them.

(kinda joking - but sadly probably true)

Since public attitudes towards homosexuality are so inconsistent, is it even possible to get an accurate percentage? Many are closeted and thus will not be truthful, while some are uncertain of their sexual identity. Yet others, the gatherers of census data, may have personal agendas or axes to grind which can make the census data altogether unreliable.

Was Alfred Kinsey a closeted homosexual? If he was, that certainly would have affected the work he did studying human sexual habits.

True objectivity is possible only for machines, computers.

But you're right, the observer effects the experiment. It's impossible to take an accurate measure of the LGBTQ population. It's not a characteristic that exists in a vacuum so we can point at it and say "there it is!" For many people, it even changes with time as they come to more fully understand themselves, and go through some trial and error trying to figure it out.

If we were in a society where there was no social stigmata to being gay, how many people who now exist in the closet out in straight society would be free?

As per the other part, I've already admitted I'm probably wrong with the 10%.

I know the bias of the groups you've posted links to, I know what the site is going to say, and I don't need to read it again to know what they've got to say.
