Question: Advertising threads

I recently created a resource thread to collect the links to all the threads related to LGBT topics and sexual orientation topics. Am I allowed, in a very limited capacity, to post a link to the thread in relevant threads on LGBT topics in order to request the aid of others?

I imagine this is a complicated question and there might be some situations where it is okay, and others where it is not. Details would be nice.

Alternatively, I was thinking of linking to it in my signature file. Is that okay.

Additionally, if any mods are planning on deleting or moving the thread, can you do so now before I put too much time and resources into it?

While I am not a moderator, and therefore not in a position to give an authoritative answer, there have been signatures with a thread link in them previous and I do not recall any issue being raised with that previously. Given the ToS, I would presume that to simply post a link and nothing more to a thread could be frowned upon - it does not contribute to the conversation. However, were it provided in the context of that particular thread, with a specific citation, you would be more appropriate in doing that than copy/pasting parts of those linked stories according to recent discussion... while it isn't a bad thing, the link provides information in its original setting instead of being taken out of context and twisted through excerpts. I think you've come across a novel solution for what you want to accomplish; whether or not it will be successful or evolve, I don't know, but I've already added one link earlier and support the creative approach.

Compiling threads is helpful and greatly appreciated so I would like to encourage you to continue working on it and thank you for your contributions.

In order to compile a list thread they have to have a means to do it. The Google cache is very limited, sporadic, not strictly chronological, and it not set up to avoid noise.

Have you thought about using search engines such as sphinx to speed up you searches? There is a plugin for phpBB. There are a number of ways you can speed up searches and reduce the load on the server.
