In another forum, I saw someone make a reference to "prop 48" in relation to
revoking the rights of Californians who happen to be homosexual to legally marry.

That got me thinking about an actual Proposition 48, put forward by the NCAA to its
football schools, its Nike and Adidas basketball schools, and so on.

The original Proposition 48 required an incoming freshman "student-athlete" (their term)
to have a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) out of a possible 4.0 and a score
of 700 or better on their Scholastic Aptitude Test in order to qualify academically for
a school's sports teams.

I remember hearing about a successor to Prop 48 that created a sliding scale for
students with a GPA between 2.00 and 3.00 to qualify for university athletic teams.
A rough approximation of that rule was to multiply your SAT score by your GPA;
in order to qualify for university athletics, the product of those numbers had to be
2100 or higher. Of course, you guys can give me a more exact version of that rule.

The thing I'm especially interested in right now is how the most recent version of this
rule works.
