I got a 20GB one for my birthday, and it's got everything I had access to that I could successfully upload including Eminem, Evanescence, Frenzal Rhomb, Green Day, Grinspoon, Jet, Korn, Lacuna Coil, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Silverchair, Spiderbait, System Of A Down, The Living End, The White Stripes and some underground artists that none of you would ever give a s**t about.

Audio that has been sampled into 0's and 1's player. I thought about getting one but want one that will play ogg,mp3,aac audio files and other diffrent ones much like i have 6 diffrent media/audio programs on my muti-purpose compter. Guess i will have make a custom made one there is none like that. Or a small laptop with lot of diffrent codecs and a slim downed type of linex :D

I've got a little 128Mb one for the gym, but I'm getting ready to buy a large-capacity one. The specs I'm after read something like:

- 20Gb at least (I have a lot of songs at 192 MP3)
- Decent battery life
- Flexibilty in terms of playlisting

I DON'T need

- Video capability (won't use it, so why pay for it?)
- Idiot-proof operation (technology and me get on just fine)
- Touch-screen, gimmicks, that kind of thing
- Compactness. I carry round a CD walkman and 6CDs each day. Even the large models are microscopic in comparison.

I WON'T buy:

- iPods, as I object to Apple's restrictive business practices
- Sony, due to the fact that things I've bought from them has poor build quality with expensive replacements.

So then, what's my best option. Creative look good so far, but are there any others on the market that might be better?

What is the allure in the ability to access any song ever recorded at the touch of a button, on a lavishingly slender slice of silicon which you can shove up your arse, without feeling any pain.
When did we lose the will to own an album of songs in its all inclusive material form, complete with album cover (without which I consider an album to be a disintergrated diversive mess), and complete with lyrics

Well, prior to digital there was only tape and that is a very frustrating medium to record on. I don't have an MP3, I have a minidisc player. I really want to go back to vinyl as I don't even like digital sound, so I'm trying to pick up a cheap turntable.
