Dear aspies!
I have a confession to make, but before you, the moderators, decides to take action I must plead you to hear me out, and if possible answer my questions.

I am not an autistic person in any shape, form or way. I have not been called or considered to have AS or ASD in all my life. I can't say I haven't considered the possibility, but I am first and foremost a friend of several diagnosed with Asperger. Not even a conventional friend, since I have merely been communicating with any of them online, but a concerned friend nontheless, particulary concerned of a person I will refer to as NastyMan (his Internet alias).

This NastyMan, an israeli resident, has ever since the age of eight been under the surveilance of psychiatric care, and was later diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. Today he is 26 and whenever an odd yet relatively innocent incident involving him is reported he is forced to spend 3 months recieving pharmopsychiatric medication with regular interval for 6 months, in which 3 months he has to spend in a mental institution. According to him, recieving drugs is the only treatment he has ever recieved and needless to say he is not happy about it.
An incident, according to him, can merely be a misunderstanding. He was telling me how he had a theological conversation with someone on the street from the balcony, when his parents overheard him say "The night is really light, so shout it out" which was interpeted as what he described as a "syndrome", where they called the police. Stranger things involves him dressing up as different outfits for no appearant reason. He was hospitalised once, he claims, while dressed as a ninja. The worst thing he has done according to him, was to announce to a strange woman he was going to rape her (yeah, I am not saying he is an angel).
I am not sure weither or not he has kept track on the numbers, but if you count that he has been asylumated every year for 18 years, he has spent 54 months within the premises of the asylum and 9 years recieving, and I assume under the influence of, psychopharmic drugs.

Everyone I have discussed this matter with, including 2 persons who has written a repport on Asperger and 2 other persons diagnosed with AS agrees either he is lying or the asylum and possibly the community as he knows it, is corrupt. I have been chatting with him for 6 years and I consider him a good friend. Even though his history in psychiatric care is immanent and his erratic personality is obvious, I do trust him. Nevertheless, he is a person I have met on the Internet, so certain doubt I think is in order. I have tried contacting the asylum, but they are yet to respond. My question is as follows:
- Is it possible he is telling the truth? (keep in mind I am not asking for your opinion, but weither or not what I just told you contradicts with your knowledge and/or experience of how mental health works)
- If so, would no you too consider the asylum as corrupt?
- If so, is it possible he has not Asperger after all (as his psychiatrist(s) clearly have not been abiding to typical psychiatric criteria)
- If so, is it possible to get him out of the asylum once and for all?
- If so, how?
- Also, has he been here before? Does anyone know who I am talking about?

Anyway, I have not seen him online for a good while now, so I have not asked his permission to post on this forum. I will try and motivate him to post here when he comes online though.
Also, you moderators may delete my account if you want to, but may I request this topic stays?

Thank you!
~Nikodemus

Asperger's is not a mental illness and you would not be admitted to a psychiatric hospital in the UK with just a diagnosis of Aspergers unless it was a mistake. I cannot speak for other countries. It's hard enough getting a diagnosis in the first place. You can, however, have other mental illnesses if you are Aspergers, the same as people without Aspergers (NT's).

It seems far-fetched, but it is within the realm of possibility. You are not likely to be banned; NT's are allowed on here. (Although I do not speak for the moderation team and cannot guarantee that your account will not be banned for some other infraction)

Of course the asylum has not responded. It is illegal to disclose such information about a patient to some random guy who just calls them. Your best shot would be to try to get in contact with his family and see if they can confirm any of these details.

in uk,people with any form of autism can legally be sectioned for their autism if they are severely endangering themselves or others,it was written in some sort of government paper giving guidelines on whats sectionable.
due to fighting everyone off every time someone tries to force am to A&E for injuries from head banging/self attacking and tc seizures, support staff here were even recommended by paramedics to get a sectioning on am everytime it happens as that means they are legally allowed to get police to do it and use a lot stronger restraint, the paras are not allowed to use any force themselves.

Nikodemus,
are very welcome on WP as much as everyone else, being non aspie or non autie is not a problem-many people here are not aspie,as well as those who are not on the spectrum at all.
other forms of autism, families and friends of those with ASDs,teachers and those who have similar conditions are all common here.
the owner of wp even welcomes extremist pro curists as long as they stay to the rules-its a very open non discriminative community even if some will seem like that.

it sounds like something typical of pyschiatric patients from what have heard-am know quite a few on a disability forum who once associated with pyschiatry in some way, they were never taken seriously again, some had forced ECT,and theyre just filled with drugs, sectioned and ignored.

there is a documentary about an autistic woman that both may like, called 'her name is sabine'-
http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2008/ ... andmusic27 an 'aspie' who was messed up by pyschiatry,is available to buy on amazon.

I didn't know that...that's awful...so I could be locked up for being an aspie!! !! I thought it was just associated anxiety disorders and deliberate self harm and mental illness etc that could get you sectioned!! !

It's the "severely endangerment" that would result in the sectioning.

Thanks everyone for responding! I still haven't been able to contact him though.

Of course I realise it is illegal for them to release any personal information. I merely wanted to see if they could confirm they were in fact hospitalising patients, treating them for Asperger. I don't believe this could be considered disclosed information. Of course, I could be wrong...
I also realise that anyone can have a mental disorder regardless the presence of autism. He insists though, that he has been forcefully hospitalised and treated for Asperger syndrome, and he also claims his mother can confirm this.

I did not realise however there is infact the possibility of hospitalising people with an autism diagnosis (sorry, I am really not familiar with the terminology) but if there indeed are no reasons to think he is a "severely endangerment", it sounds like what is keeping him there are merely technicalities. Surely then one should be able to pull some strings and have him rediagnosed or something?
