I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for saying this, but Ronald Reagan. On his own, he was a pretty good president, qualified to do the job, and scared every other country on the earth s**tless...
However, the failure in my eyes comes from the fact that his economic policies are still the core of the Republican party today. You know that idea that "reckless spending is good for the economy" that the Republicans are so proud of? That was Reagan's idea (or at least the idea of someone in his staff)... In today's world, the average european makes less money than the average US citizen (albeit working fewer hours), and yet is just as economically stable (if not moreso), and has a good deal of money saved up each year, all because they don't go out and buy sh** every time they have the cash on hand to do so...
ToadOfSteel already did, and citing very very good reason for doing so.
Well the moron did start a spending war with the soviet union. Attacked countries that had nothing to do with combatants during the Contra affair. Created one of the worst budget deficient ever. Created a good for nothing missile system. Promoted Christan Right-Wing BS & so on.
Not to mention the fact that the 1980's was a very dark period for civil-rights. Putting the countries military & supply-side economics before civil rights. Made no provison's to the Voting Rights act of 1965. Didn't even bring up Gay-Rights & many more issues such as AID's.
Irresponsible fiscal policy, diminishing the welfare system, lack of accomplishment towards issues like AIDS's and so on. Releasing patients from mental hospitals. Putting disabled people in a very bad position and so on. [Cutting welfare on a wheelchair-bound person, shame.] Reagan in my opinion would be one of the worst presidents ever. Down with Buchanan, Andrew Jackson & Warren Harding.
