Do Autistic children scream less?

My nephew doesn't scream or throw tantrums like other children.

Is not screaming like other children a trait of autistic children?

He is 3 years old.

It's entirely dependent on the child and it can vary greatly. My son is a crier/screamer/yeller. His friend is the exact opposite and shuts down completely. Just like NT people react differently to various situations/stimulations, so do kids on the spectrum

Screaming and crying - people are horrified when my daughter does it because it is only something you would expect a toddler. I am told it is apart of an autistic meltdown - it's really horrible. After it is over, she will cry inconsably - if she hasnt passed out with exhausation. People think she is seriously emotionally disturbed and is being abused - I have had those accusations.

They can and have gone on for hours - with full intensity.

If he doesn't have any other traits or isn't showing any developmental or other problems, I would be ..... very grateful. A calm, agreeable, non-screaming, non-tantrumming child should be enjoyed, not worried about.

When we enter a store, EVERYONE knows it...My daughter is SO loud! We've experienced meltdowns everywhere. When my hubby and I get brave and venture to a restaurant with her, we order our food and ask for it to be put in a to go container instead of on a plate, along with check. That way, when the meltdown happens, we are ready to run! We do take her out a lot, though, trying to teach her appropriate behavior in public. She doesn't get left home with a sitter.
One thing she does, which is actually kind of cute to me, probably annoying to those who haven't walked a day in my shoes, is say "hi" to everyone. She will not stop saying "hi" to someone until they have said it back to her. She will even yell it down an aisle if they hadn't said a return "hi" to her. She doesn't realize just how loud she is. Our behavior therapist has worked with her on using a quieter voice, but no luck with any of the suggestions. So, if you are ever out and a child says "hi" to you, please return the polite gesture:-) She LOVES it!

It depends on the individual child. My mom swears that she thought I was going to make everyone in a three mile radius go deaf because I screamed non stop as a baby.

From what I've seen on the videos about autism. They do yell and scream and throw tantrums which we call meltdowns. Be grateful that your brother/sister has an autistic child who doesn't yell or scream and have a meltdown. I would be grateful if my own autistic child didn't do them either. I'd rather have a quiet one than someone who hurts my ears and wrecks my apartment I feel I want to tie him/her down.

I would say your experience is the opposite of what most parents on the board have experienced.

At home and anywhere with my family, I screamed very little, but school was a different story.
