The English language has too major roots - from the Angle sax-soldiers and Viking Invaders to the Norman-French Invaders. Much of our pedantic language is riddled with the French and Latin words whie we often have simpler words derived from Germanic languages. In this game, we explore this concept by taking complicated Latin-derived verbs and converting them to Germanic-derived verbs.

Germanic languages often break their verbs apart by splitting the verb into an acting verb and a preposition. In this game, most cases will require this. An example would be "to dispose" being "to throw out". One who comes up with an acceptable answer will come up with a new verb.

I shall start with an easy one.

"to conceive"

"Withhold" is about the best I can come up with.
capio = to take
"mitziehen" would have to be the German equivalent, but that's not used much . . . so??

In Anglo-Saxon, that means "to put out"

"to snuff out" is a better verb.
