I'm in 7th grade, but I'm very small and I look like a 5th or 6th grader.
I failed Reading last year. It's not because I'm dyslexic or I can't read or anything. It's part my fault and part my evil reading teacher Mrs. Martin's fault. It's her fault because she made us read a reader's handbook that basically said, "If you don't know how to read, read this book and we'll tell you how to read!" It made you go through a long process of thinking about a word every time you read one. I tried reading a short book that had the most elementary words. I was so busy going through that thinking process that I no longer remember a single detail. I don't even remember the book's title! (And that's amazing, since I usually remember every little detail of everything!) This proves that this system of reading is ineffective. It's my fault because I was too lazy to do all of those pointless assignments. I thought, "Why not teach us to just read a book and enjoy it?"
My English teacher, Mrs. Blair, was sort of mean to the ones she didn't like. She would say, "Okay. I'm going to put the names of everyone in the class, and I am going to let my favorites pick names first. Chris, you can go first."
Mrs. Blair liked me. I picked Taylor's name.
"Skyler, you're next."
Then Skyler went.
"Matt. Whoops- I guess my statement of picking favorites first was a lie. Silly me!"
Matt was a real troublemaker who is now at the alternative school. He flunked 6th grade on account of his behavior.
Mrs. Close, my social studies teacher, was fun. She gave us all these big parties like the Greek Olympics, the Chinese New Year, and the Renaissance Festival.
I won many things during the fifth and sixth grades, but that's another story for another time.
6th graders, let me tell you this: I think 7th grade is much easier than 6th. If you need help, you can send me a private message lamenting your problems. That's what I would have done, had I known about this website.
Yours Truly,
Christopher Grills
