I am an MTF transexual, and I am looking for some advice on a couple of things. First off, I am looking at buying my first female clothes soon. It will be summer, and I have no air conditioning where I am staying. I only really plan to wear them around the dorm. I am for bottoms planning on getting just a skirt and capris to start, but I am not sure what I am doing for tops and I am only looking at two. Any advice?

Secondly, is there anything that the typical male might do (that I might do subconciously) that women don't do that I should try to work on? I know walk is one thing, and I am making an effort to change that.

Also, anything else I haven't thought of would be nice. And if you want to ask me a couple of questions about it, feel free.

I love to wear skirts in the summer. They are so cool and light. I think you will enjoy women's clothing a lot.

About make-up (from your other post,) it is really easy to put on. You can actually go to the mall in the cosmetic section and ask for a makeover for free or a Mary Kay consultant will do it for free. I got lots of great make up tips from Mary Kay in my early 20's. I still use the same shades and techniques at 40.

I will keep that in mind. I have already gotten some advice on makeup for a trans only forum. What they said in a more general sense to everyone there was to go into the local HBC when ready to start doing make up, and talk to the Mac make up people there, as they know everything and are trained to be accomodating and accepting to everyone with their make upe needs regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or reason for wanting to wear it.

Typical male thing = sitting down and spreading your legs, but you might have already thought about that one. That's definitely a male thing!

If I were in your position I'd just sit in a busy area in town and study girls - how they act alone, how they act around other people, and all those small girly things that girls do ... people watch, in other words.

Good luck with the surgery and all the other stuff that comes with it :)

Thanks, I will keep that in mind... Going to be a tough habit for me to break though, as when I sit, I sit for comfort. Also, being male really sucks, and that's not even my reason for getting my change. The reason I am doing this is impossible to explain, but I kinda can by saying that right now my skin is not my own. I just want to be who I am. I also want to eliminate the subconcious things I do with my body that are typically male, and the only way to do that is to become aware I do it.

For inspiration on clothing, you could perhaps buy some magazines (like vogue/elle, though cosmopolitan is a bit more casual than the other two), you'll probably get ideas about accessorizing as well:) . Tank tops with spaghetti straps are usually worn during Summer and can easily be combined with a skirt or capri's.
You could wear a pretty cardigan over it if the weather is still a bit chilly or during night time.
For more formal wear, you could think of a button up blouse (which could match your skirt) and a fitting jacket or bolero type cardigan (the short one, it comes just halfway or so down your ribs).

One of my favourite brands for 'girly' clothes is Noa Noa, they're style is very vintage and feminine, and it's made for (slightly) curvy women which is a plus in my book:

(take a look at their lookbook for ideas).

Here's another clothing brand, this one's a bit more modern:

Hope you can get some ideas on what type of clothes etc. to pick:)

I think it's also worth exploring what kind of girl you feel comfortable being. Just because you're MTF doesn't mean you have to wear skirts, unless that's what feels natural to you. I very rarely wear skirts (like maybe once a year  ) because it's just not me. I'm more of a tank top/tshirts and jeans girl. In the summer I'm not into super short shorts. They're not what I feel comfortable in. Have fun exploring what feels right to you.

One piece of advice, when you're ready to explore with makeup, go and get your eyebrows waxed first. That's definitely a girl thing and it will give your eyes more shape. 8)

Thanks for the links. As for figuring out what type of girl I am, well, I'll figure that out soon enough. I just can't wait to finally get to be who I really am.
