I clone plants, I use a root hormone and what it does is creates another plant from another without seed. Most of the time it's successful but some plants are not as easily adaptive to this technique and so fail.

1. With regards to human cloning what do you believe are the benefits to man-kind?

2. Can you explain the politics, why is it disagreed upon? Can it be viewed as one can do what they want with there body, even when detached and science has the right to conduct experimentation freely with consent?

Those who chose not to engage in cloning and genetic engineering will become the slaves of those who do.

1. Cloning technology could have great products in the form of other biological advances. If we had better cloning technology we might be able to clone parts of the body rather than entire bodies. If we did that then we could implant organs with no fear of rejection. Really though, I can only speculate at what we could do but greater research in this subject would allow us to have a greater understanding of our own biology and help us with technology relating to that.

2. The political issue is that human cloning seems wrong to some people, it is something that is easy to see as an abomination because it seems contrary to the natural order and it violates our belief in people being sacred and holy and beyond tampering. People often don't like the idea of testing that involves the nature of human life. A lot of political opposition would come from the religious right because they are strictest on their beliefs on human life being sacred as can be seen from their opposition to stem-cell research and abortion. Freer laboratories would be a good thing as it would make for more research and therefore more discovery.

cloning plants is very different from cloning mammals. indeed, many plants in their natural habitat reproduce by a similar method. although i can see how cloning plants might lead to consideration of these kind of questions.

I just started cloning plants recently, I did hear about cloning much prior.

I completely agree with you. If we don't go ahead with research we will be left behind and have to rely on others who don't have any problem with it and pay a premium to get it. I say screw the religous right things like this could save lots of lives not just their souls which seems all their worried about.

Exactly, technology is important and being strong at technology is a necessity for any modern economy. The people who stay on top of the technology game get good jobs and high qualities of life, those that don't end up working in factories for those that do. There is a reason why India and China are pumping lots of money and students into technology fields.
