There's a procedure by which the fibroids can be removed from the uterine walls, which are then sewn back together. Sounds repulsive, but it preserves the uterus. It's mainly done for women who are in their childbearing years, and want to be able to have kids. I don't want kids, which is another reason that my gyno's been blabbing about hysterectomy (get it all done in one fell swoop, yadda yadda). I really dunno. The cancer risks will probably always be with me, whether I get everything carved out or not. I'm far too vain to want to turn into an old bag overnight, though, so we'll see...
My aunt had this done not to long ago and doesn't want anymore childern she was told if they come back that next time she's looking at a hysterectomy but only the uterus being removed. Her mother died of breast cancer in her 60s. Hope this information helps a bit I still think you need a new doctor. I'd feel funny about the big push for the hysterectomy that you clearly do not want.
