Good day all,
I was recently and somewhat unexpectedly diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome by a psychiatrist whom I was originally seeing to treat depression and anxiety. Various people have suggested Asperger's to me before, and I've always been "different" in many of the typically Aspie ways (strong technical aptitude, intense interests, extreme shyness and social ineptness, difficulty with communication, clumsiness, etc.). But I had previously thought I was best explained in other ways (my depression combined with my introversion is severe enough that it could account for a lot of it), so it came as a surprise that someone would officially diagnose me with AS.
I ordered Tony Attwood's book The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome from Amazon (where for some reason the hardcover edition is cheaper than the paperback -- is there a difference?), but I've been poking around this site for a few days while I wait for it to get here. In the meantime, any advice (tips, books, resources, etc) you might have for someone just starting to figure things out would be most appreciated.
I'm not sure how much I'll end up posting on this forum -- my difficulty with social interaction manages to extend itself even onto the internet -- but I'm eager to learn more about this planet and the people who inhabit it.
