Greetings, fellow aspies! My real name is Hannah [] and I'm looking for a new aspie friend who lives in Chicago, IL. I joined about a month ago and all I do is read the forums. So I thought 'How about I see if there's anyone in Chicago with Asperger's who I can be friends with?' It would be nice to have someone I can share my thoughts and feelings with, and someone to hang out with, too. I just recently moved to Chicago from California and it's been rough. I'm very slowly starting to adapt to life in Chicago. I'm staying with my sister for a year and then I'm going to find my own place to live. I CAN'T WAIT!! ! Living with my sister is putting me way out of my comfort zone. My so-called bedroom is this futon bed in the middle of the living room, so I don't have any privacy. Anyway, I'll spare the details and just say that it sucks.
I was diagnosed with Asperger's just a few days ago. I'm curious about if whoever on this site is employed, how they managed to get the job and keep it. I'm having a hard time with that. I was in this vocational program in California and they helped me find a job, but it took forever to get started with the program. I'm thinking about seeking rehabilitation services to help me find the right job and keep it. Has anyone here gone through that? Feel free to reply.

First: Welcome to WrongPlanet!

I used to live in Plainfield, near Joliet (Southern Chicago suburbia), but have recently moved back down to the Peoria area (Central Illinois).

I'm 22 and am currently having troubles with employment as well. Consequently, I'm living with my parents--not a whole lot of fun.

Anyway, feel free to ask any question, and I'll do my best to answer.

Out of curiosity, where did you live in California? I spent some time in San Diego back in the day.

Again, welcome to WrongPlanet!

Hey there,

I'm from Chicago and have had good luck with employment, but you're not alone, it's much harder for anyone to have and keep a job in this economy. Also, you're new to an area where you don't know a whole lot of people, so you don't have a social network with friends to help you find a job. Plus having Asperger's makes things even harder, I know I suck at interviews because of it. Hang in there!

Welcome to WrongPlanet!

It was said, 'if you can't find a job in Chicago, you won't probably find one anywhere'. So just take up any job opportunities as they are, even though they suck or make you underemployed --- if you are really serious having a job.
