Recently,
I got invited to a ball and I had moved out of my aunt's house. I want to shop for a dress alone since I now live alone. Yet, she is insisting that I go shopping with her or with someone else to try on formals because she thinks I need a second opinion. I told her that I could go alone and Saturday, but she protested and told me that I am better off spending the weekends studying.

Do you think she is being too controlling?

considering your age, yes. Don't tell her your plans anymore, just do what you want and then you can show her the dress after you have chosen it. Or not, if you think her response might be negative. Show her the dress in the pictures from the event. Share with her on your terms, not hers. It will get easier.

sounds more like a NT thing. NTs generally hate shopping alone and see it as something to be avoided, and almost see it as a social code to not let someone go alone. I've fought people on that one. Over time, they accept I will shop alone, and not with others. Period.
