Quote:
"Indiscriminate shelling of cities constitutes a foreseeable and unacceptable targeting of civilians", she said. "Similarly, the bombardment of sites with alleged military significance, but resulting invariably in the killing of innocent civilians, is unjustifiable".

It's worth reading the opinion of an expert in the area.

I would hardly call most people from the UN experts on anything. Just look at the UN's track record...the proof is in the pudding!!

You know that was a logical fallacy, right?

No more of a falicy then what you're commiting. "Experts" are'nt always right. The person saying something does'nt make it true.

The UN commision on human rights practices huge double standards in its dealings with member nations. The reason for this is that the body has been corrupted by mebers such as Syria and Saudi Arabia. The fact that 2 of the Nations with the worst human rights records are voting members casts a cloud of suspicion over what comes out of that body.

There's no logical falicy in that!

worst human rights?

I'd start with China. And where are the clothes you are wearing made? Did you know they've been killing off falung gong (skuse spellling) and other prisoners for their organs?

And yet we still buy their stuff and sell them our resources - YUCK.

And then there is Zimbabwe, Burma, Laos, Israel (USA supported abuse of Palestinians and Lebanese human rights), North Korea, Sierra Leone, Pakistan etc etc.

I'd put them ahead of Syria and Saudi Arabia - though both these are bad, but why leave out Kuwait and Jordan and Egypt?

waterdogs - you must not be familiar with the League of Nations. Or even the Olympic organisation (but at least they stick to sport mostly).

The UN might not be getting it rightw all the time, but I admire that they try. They seem to do better in areas of Child Welfare and Health - although if various governments don't want to help or have delusions of their own, it can be a bit hard to do anything. But I believe they mostly make slow progress in the right direction.

Some of those stupid wars (supported by arms dealers and military establishments everywhere who depend on war for a reason to exist) really don't help with the child welfare and health distribution. Though I think if you do successfully implement better health and welfare for everyone you had also better implement birth control too. There is a finite limit to how many people the earth can support sustainably and I think we're already past it.
