Hi everyone

I don't know why, but in a long time I haven't been receiving emails from wrongplanet as I used to.
Before, I would get a mail each time something was updated in a post, and this was quite nice, since it made it alot easier to managed and to get a overview of the threads I was participating in.

Please help me, cause I can't use wrongplanet.net properly now because of this!

(Note that the email-address is typed correctly, I haven't changed anything, so I guess it's a problem with the page, mailserver, or database.)
("Notify me when a reply is posted" is checked.)

Use Gmail, you'd find that it delivers there but for some unusual reason it doesn't seem to work very well with hotmail, this happens to me too unfortunately. :(

Well then it's a problem with the configuration. Even though the error may not be wrongplanet.net's, I think that they should still be taking responsibility and try to work out a solution. I use hotmail for wrongplanet for some very specific reasons, my gmail is used for other stuff.

EDIT: I've just wroted though the "Contact Us", now I'll just have to wait :D
Again, I've lived without the function since March 1th, so I have no problem waiting a month more.
It just annoys me, cause it means that I can't use wrongplanet the way I wanted to.

1. This issue has been ongoing for some time; if you'll read back through this forum, you will see others with the same issue which has been ongoing since Alex rather abruptly made some changes at the beginning of this year.

2. Hotmail has been an issue in several cases; I would suggest trying an alternate email address to solve your problem, as it could well be a problem with your webmail provider and their filters.

3. The notification checkbox must be marked on the FIRST page of the thread; attempts to follow a thread from any other page does not result in the notifications being triggered.

4. Good luck on the "Contact Us" option; while it has been asserted that messages sent to that account are read and responded to, the reality of my experience over the past two years has been very different. From what I've encountered, Alex expects people to call him using his Google number at the bottom of each page... which, given the nature and challenges faced by those who make up the membership of this site (and the international cast), that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

5. This is part of an on-going series of issues that has been set in front of Alex for the past few months, if not longer. Requests for action have been met with relatively apathy, but individual continue to ask for the requested fixes to be implemented.

Hi to both of you, thanks for the responses. I just can't get this to make any sense, since I've been able to receive without any problems in the past.
I have my own mailserver running, and I have no problems sending to hotmail, so I fail to see what the issue is.
If only it was as simple as the mails were going to junk mails, but no, they aren't even delivered.

Is there anything Wrong Planet can do to make it's emails more friendly to Hotmail's parameters? Hotmail is a popular email service and many of our members are on it. The issue effectively shuts out a percentage of our population from enjoying all Wrong Planet features.

Does Wrong Planet have any leverage with Hotmail for adjusting their parameters if needed?

If it helps isolate the problem, the conflict seems to have started earlier this year, in 2010. That is when I stopped receiving my email alerts to hotmail (I have since rerouted through gmail, but I don't expect everyone to do the same, since there are other solid and good reasons someone might choose hotmail over gmail).

Exactly!
Thank you for the advice of rerouting though gmail, I can't believe I didn't thought of that!
I will set a gmail account up for this purpose until it get's fixed properly.

Suddenly my Hotmail account is getting Topic Reply Notifications again, after a couple of months or so of being broken. First one was datestamped 01 June 2010 13:59:18. I didn't do a thing to make it happen.

Much better now it works again - anybody else got it back?
