Is this asking too much from my family
We have 2 HD TVs in the house. One of them is in the family room. The other one is in my parents' room. There is a 3rd TV in the guest room.
The Big TVs have the shows that I usually want to watch. The channels on the TV in the guest room do not (except for maybe one, possibly two channels). Today, I got aggravated because I could not watch my show in the family room because my brother comes home and he immediately starts talking to me. I did not want to talk to him, and then I reminded him that the only reason why I even GET TV time is because I had my dad talk to him about it. He, of course, gets all sarcastic about it. My mom comes home. She and my brother start to have a conversation. Now, I know it is their right to have a conversation in the family room. The only problem is: it drowns out my (rare) TV time that I get once a week because my brother does not like to share. Thus I cannot relax.
My solution is:
Provided it doesn't too much extra, would it be possible for them to add two channels/switch packages (again, as long as it's not on the expensive side) so I can get those channels so that this way, when my brother comes home and mother starts up a conversation, I can go ahead and watch in the other room. Now, I know it's not HD, but I don't want it to be in HD. All I want are three, maybe four channels and that TV would be *my* TV. That's it. It would avoid problems, I wouldn't have to subject myself to family chatter, and I could relax and watch that TV whenever I wanted to, and could avoid talking to my family member/hearing them talk to each other.
My question is: Is this asking too much?
I can't really speak for your parents. Paying for a whole new package just for one family member to watch does seem a bit of an overkill, but you never know unless you ask I guess.
What about if you offered to do more chores or work around the house in exchange for the cost? Or if you have an allowance/job maybe you could offer to pay for it out of that?
If that doesn't work out, you could always set the programme to record and watch it later. Or get the episodes online (I know there's a few websites this service).
You seem pretty reasonable yourself though (just from the wording of your post), so if you can explain your situation as clearly to your parents, they may help.
+1
Or timer record programmes and watch them when no one else is around. Or try streaming the shows and/or channels online. I can stream TV channels live on my phone, and do so because my mum refuses to let me have a TV in my room for no reason I can see (yet she still complains when I use the one in the living room
I'm glad I'm allowed a TV in my room even though it does only have freeview.
Then again I did pay for most of it myself...

It seems like headphones or getting the episodes online is a good solution. Probably won't hurt to ask though if, as was previously said you offer to do chores or whatever in exchange.

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils ...
I feel you. When was little I used to never watch tv because my taste and my families taste were far from same. I saved up and got my own little tv. Mind you that was when bunny ears worked. Sorry off topic...
Go for it. Sit down your dad and tell him what's going. what you want to do to fix it. Bring up head phones or getting your own. Who is your provider? What packege do you have? How much would it cost to set up the guest tv? Have all this information ahead of time.
