all guides should be taken down.

I don't need anyone else to tell me to change, it's not fair and not right - it's not ethical to tell someone to change because of their ethnic origins or their hair colour. you shouldn't be promoting guides telling people to change because they have Autism either.

It is tantamount to bigotary, discrimination and prejudice to encourange an incurable condition to change.

I guess this may be one of the down-sides of ads. Unscrupulous advertisers trying to sell autism related snake oil via third party adverts. If that is the case I wish Alex could do something to block those adverts taking advantage of WP. It's like having an anti-smoking campaign paid for by advertising from cigarette companies. It does nothing for the credibility of this site to have adverts promoting quick fix autism cures or some of the other dodgy stuff such as scientology, wonder diets and "you have won" adverts that apparently keep cropping up in various forms. At this rate he is going to just drive away visitors to the site or encourage even more people to adopt advert blocking browser add-ons as I've done - people only put up with so much crap on screen before they consider the option of blocking it completely.

I don't know what they are. It's years since I've seen any adverts on the internet. One of the joys of adblock and the Firefox web browser.

It would help if the OP was more specific and said exactly what he is referring to instead of leaving everyone guessing.

Thinking about it logically: WP is a support site for people with Aspergers / autism. Therefore there are lots of keywords associated with that all over the site. Therefore, due to the way adverts are placed based on content of pages, WP is going to be a big magnet for adverts relating to Aspergers / autism. However, the only people who would pay to show adverts related to this are people with something to sell in relation to Asperger / autism. Therefore there will be adverts on this site for every dodgy product, snake oil, "guide", cure-all etc in relation to Aspergers / autism. Or those with an agenda to push such as autism-speaks or the scientologists who are just plain nuts and want to "cure" everyone and indoctrinate people into their cult. Not good.

WP had the Mormons for almost 6 full months as a primary sponsor, but when the CD for Songs of the Spectrum (SOS) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... dID=760509 became a sponsor (fundraiser for Autism Speaks) I knew that WP had jumped the shark on the advertising.

Ah, that one ... Truth be told, I found it odd the first time I saw it, but the thread seemed to have a lot of interaction and comment, and no rule violations, so I basically chalked that one up to "if you don't want to read it, don't."

It may be a valid question if it should be stickied, because that does make it seem to endorsed or semi-official in some way, while my understanding it is just a member initiated discussion.

Other opinions?
