Had to change classes at the last minute!! !

Everything was ready for Monday then I found out the bus doesn't go to the local campus ONLY the main campus (A 2hr. bus ride!) So I rushed to change my courses at the last minute to the Main Campus! Now I'm taking History U.S. up to 1877,Speech,Statistics,Health online. You know how us Aspies handle routine and planning and to have the plan BLOW UP! like that OMG! I think I have everything in order now (I had to order new books and cancel 3 classes) The NEW books should be here sometime next week I HOPE! In Math we are covering Chapters 2 and 3 and after the 1st week is the first test!! !! I talked to the History teacher (on his office number) he seemed nice and interesting despite negative reviews on ratemyprofessor.com OMG so nervous! Everything WAS SET!! !! Now it's a MESS!! !! ! Wish me Luck!! !

Good Luck I've been there. Negotiating all that was a struggle for me. It seems like something always went wrong. I was wondering why more people with AS don't go to college online . My son's paternal grandfather is a history professor and he really likes teaching online courses. He says there's a lot of good interaction.

Online IS BORING!! !! I crave interaction as odd as that might seem as an Aspie. I did an online Meteorology course and we talked about the book chapter by chapter 1,2,3, etc. OH How is thunder made?! Brandy that's in Chapter 12 we aren't there yet. BOO! (I thought) Also back then in Fall 2004 FL was hit with like 5-6 hurricanes back to back to back UH! He didn't even talk about them!! !! ! So it was a boring teacher! and a by the books chapter by chapter class! I want discussion etc. It was boring! At least for me anyway.

yeah, i started last week and have had to change my schedule about five times, still don't have all my textbooks (b/c can't afford them), so I can't do some of my homework, so i've been dying in side in tragic fiery ways all week. nuts. having all the physical stress/anxiety symptoms.

college should have its place in Dante's Inferno.

I had a similarly annoying experience. We had an incredibly stupid orientation we had to go to, and the only dates offered were the wednesday and friday just before classes actually started. The wednesday one was already filled up by the time I signed up, so I took the friday one. All morning we listened to presentations that were stupid, presentations that were boring, and presentations that were both stupid and boring.

The way the school works, you can only register if all holds are lifted -- advisement hold and orientation hold both applied to me. Things appeared to be going well, since after the mind-numbing presentations all morning, they finally broke us up into groups according to our major and sent us off for advisement. They also took off the orientation hold, so all I had to do was get advisement knocked out real quick and I could finally register.

They started advising students going into that department. I waited. And waited. I had detailed plans on exactly what I wanted to take, and backup plans for various contingencies. I had read and understood the catalog. Another student next to me, who had already finished his advisement appointment, as well as presumably having gotten advice on what classes to take in the advisement appointment he'd just finished, asked one of the student assistants what courses he should take. Time passed. Near the end of the afternoon, I was finally called, not quite dead last, but close.

The advisor advised, and when she was satisfied, said "I'll just take your hold off now." Music to my ears. Then, "That's funny, it won't let me." Not so music to my ears.

It turned out that the hold had been put on my account was from the generic university advisors, not the department major advisors. I had to cross the entire large campus, having never set foot on it before, armed only with my poor sense of direction and a map. Unfortunately, it wasn't the map that they give out on their website, which labels every single building and is perfect for navigating even if you are unfamilliar with the place, since all of the buildings have signs outside of them with their building number and name. Instead, it was a dumbed-down map, and although it gave the shape of each building, it only gave the names and numbers of the really important ones.

I got lost on the way twice, but finally found it. They were closing as I got there. They refused to see me, and told me they wouldn't open back up until tuesday, the day classes started.

I spent the weekend, all three days of it, trying to salvage something of my plans, and watching on the web as classes that were still open and that I wanted to take filled up. Oh, and if you register after classes start, they helpfully charge you a fee for that.


Good luck. And don't worry too much about the ratemyprofessor site. It seems like a lot of the people there are just whining, so just because he got a bad rating doesn't mean he deserved it.
