------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a friend who is alcoholic and is still
rememebers every aspect of his childhood
to adult. The alcohol is just a symptom for
greater issues, as I have told him many
times. I have suspected something greater.

He is a genious, and I often enjoy him
being Mr. Scientist, and he articulates
very well. He write like this......

Helloo hw is yor day. waht is
yro nae.

He will sing and articulate drama's
and is a walking prescription drug
pharmacy for anxiety, focus, and
god knows what.

Last night I did a controlled experiment
with him. I said say a sentence, Think
the sentence, an write it as you think it.
It pains me to see him struggle, but that
is something I have no control over.

Some of your symptoms of lack of focus
seem similar, but I am not a psychologist,
nor expert of any kind.

Thanks,

Ghosthunter

P.S...His hands don't cooperate with his brain,
this is what I observed.Back to top

Any idea's that may help this friend of mine?

Things I know about what I see.....

•Focus
•Anxiety
•Panic Attacks
•and my personal observations:

1)...He can watch things in parts and remember
where he left off.

2)....One day we went to see Carol Channing
speak at the ACT theatre on Geary. He couldn't
see 1/2 the program and I would have to fill in
the details of the later events of the show.

3)...Movies are in parts and this is why I don't see
movies with him. I start, then finish, and he
cannot help go in tangients if silent for a short
period of time.

4)...You see his spelling...Hmmmm?, but very articulate.

5)...sweating dreams, and clenching caused by
these dreams(this is what he told me).

Since I, as Ghosthunter, look for visual clues to trigger
memory this is all I can think of until some other triggers
can be activated in my brain through other clues I may
have forgotten at this moment of time.

Hmmm... I don't know. His problems with writing might be a case of dyslexia. Lack of focus doesn't exclusively pertain to AS, either. It might be ADD, as they are often very intelligent and articulate. You said he was an alcoholic. Alcoholism can result in depression, insomnia, and anxiety. That might be why he shows signs of anxiety. Also, alcoholics may develop brain degeneration and even neurological problems. So his poor writing skills might even be caused by that.

I'm sorry not to be able to assist you with any of this. My best bet would be that he has a case of HFA. However, I've really no idea.

The thing that struck me is that your friend said that in his dreams he can fly, but no one cares he can fly. That sounds like a case of knowing you have a talent that exceeds everyone elses and they refuse to acknowledge you for that. In my dreams, I always have the gift of flight. I can't recall if anyone ever notices or cares, but I can always fly.

From Ghosthunter,
I do say thankyou for taking the time
to at least looking and considering
possibilities.

Sincerely,

He definitely has some issues, but I'm wary of speculating about a possible diagnosis. I'm not a doctor or a psychologist, just an interested layperson. I've been misdiagnosed by well-meaning friends (and come up with the wrong self-diagnosis as well) and it caused a fair amount of confusion and needlessly questioning myself. I know a lot of people here have had problems getting professionals to take them seriously, but I still think it's the best place to turn to get a proper analysis. So I would suggest that if your friend wants to know the official word for what he is, that he get an appointment with a psychologist.
