My Mother said that if I won't go with her to the Thames Festival tonight she will not go out for a walk with me tomorrow morning. My weekend morning brisk walk is part of my routine and it would kill me not to go for the walk, so I have no choice but to go to the festival. I cannot stand live music, I cannot take fireworks - I am running the risk of having a panic attack why does she have to do this to me??? I have an evening routine and it would kill me to ruin it.

I'd stay at home and go for a walk on my own in the morning.

Sounds like a bit of blackmail.

People try to do this sort of thing to me all the time - I think it is even promoted by some 'autism experts' . . . but then when I say 'Well, ok - you need to watch the weather channel with me for an hour' or something they act like I'm asking for something impossible . . .

Maybe your mother just doesn't want to go alone.

I sympathize. Crowds and loud noise are not my idea of a good time, either. Might she reconsider? Maybe she can find someone else to go to the festival with?

I went... And it wasn't too bad, although my evening routine was ruined. I've got to get used to my routine being changed, otherwise I will never be able to adjust in life.

See, you held it in and went through it anyway. Experts say that's better than letting out your anger and frustration. Now you've just got to readjust, and you're already sounding fine.

I hope your Mom is proud of you for being brave. I always tried to weasel out of things like that. In fact, now that I'm older I still do, and it doesn't help the problem. Good for you :D !
