Such errors seem random. I've had lots of weird and wonderful error messages over the time I've been a member including the one you describe. The weirdest message is one saying that someone doesn't exist when I post a reply PM to them! A few more attempts and they usually work - or complain I'm posting too fast. 
Hopefully all these bugs will be history in the new version of the WP software.

I've had similar issues attempting to post multiple images at a time.

It happens in most forums but I have noticed a couple that are immune from the byte. 
This started happening about two months ago or so when the auto-resize thingie was applied.
