The number 8 followed by a closed parentheses is coming up as the cool emoticon, rather than the number eight.

Other message board use ":8:" because of this problem.

It is a "problem," because (7) and (9) are fine, but when you do that to the number 8, you get (8)

I know. But if you want to do that, you can disable smilies, like I did. See:

I don't want to disable smileys and I am sure there are many here that rather see others emoticons/emotions. :D

I used to do extrans (HTML tags to text) using a technique like this (back in my Ick.com days), only I didn't hear of BBcode yet (Ick.com is HTML[?], rather than php), so I used HTML (message-board type). (Sorry for all the parantheses.)

I suppose I could do that in the stats, Mich. However I know from other message boards, the admins. use ":8:" instead of parentheses around the number 8 in order to not get the emoticons.
