Yes, I've had children. I once told an ex friend off, because he kept going on about how women's skin didn't look so nice with all the stretch marks and things. I told him that at least I got stretch marks from bringing life into the world. And I asked, what's the excuse for your pot belly?

hahaha good comeback. he sounded like a bit of an ass.

Fibro sucks. I used to take dance classes, go running, or for long walks. Now I have to be careful not to overdue any physical exertion because of pain flare ups. Tai Chi doesn't hurt, because it's so gentle and can even be done while sitting.
that sounds like a perfect exercise. ofr years i didn't get much exercise, so i tend to do a little too much all at once. learning to moderate is not easy.

thank you! i'm working on it on the inside.

Hear drinking milk was advised to Weight Watchers clients, the calcuim, so maybe do some research to see the validity of that idea.

My skin did shrink up some after all the weight came off from child no 4 (all c-sections so I know about scars!) also lots of stretch marks b/c I'm short and had excessive amniotic fluid.

There are topical things you can do that will help somewhat like coco butter. Won't elimiante the problem by a long stretch (pun intended). Yet with supplementation like calcium (if that is true, I took it just in case and needed it anyway along w. mangnesium for absorbtion) it may be better than nothing.

Above all, like you said, being healthier and working on the inside is what counts. For awhile I felt like I had to scoop the skin into the smaller clothes, but it did get better with time. Good for you for caring for your chid's Momma and loosing the weight. It really is better for you to be at lower BMI so that is important! Keep up the good work!

I could have written your post. I have been doing the same and in my early forties. After losing my double chin fat I developed waddle and it is horrifying to me. I am sure it is barely noticeable to most people, but the aging and weight loss thing in cahoots is difficult to deal with. When you lose fat and you're younger I don't think this becomes much of an issue. I have a new face wrinkle with every kilo I drop. I am doing the weight loss more for overall health than looks, but it doesn't make it easier to deal with. We all know this stuff is going to happen but when you're looking at a face that looks 40 something and you feel emotionally 20 something it's kind of weird.

Hyperlexian,

I think my skin type must be similar to yours. I am 22 years old, and I have had stretch marks on my thighs since I was 11 or 12. I was never pregnant, the marks are all the result of weight that I gained when I was in school. My skin is very sensitive, with little elasticity.

I try not to let it bother me. My weight has gone up and down over the years. I am currently about 15 pounds overweight, but I exercise every day and feel healthier than I have in quite a while and I think that is the important thing.

I have lost weight and when I squeeze my skin together, even on my belly, it looks all wrinkly but when it's not pinched together, it looks good and normal. I don't mind the slight change on my tummy and the skin because it could have been worse. At least it's not loose or saggy or covered in stretch marks and it doesn't even look like I've had a baby. But then again maybe this has to do with my young age but even young women can get stretch marks from pregnancy and ugly skin and a big belly. I was just in the minority to get back to my shape in less than 30 days.

interesting about the milk. i am lactose intolerant so i have to get my calcium from elsewhere. i will definitely try to increase my calcium intake.

my child is pretty old (16), so there isn't much excuse for still being fat lol. thanks so much for the encouragement!

yeah, your skin sounds just like mine! i wonder what makes our skin different like that? i also started getting stretch marks around the same age. my stretch marks are from puberty, weight gain, and pregnancy too. funny but i was reading one cause of stretch marks is actually weight LOSS, if you can believe it!! !! it is only in cases of extremely rapid weight loss, and mine has been very gradual, but still, i was shocked at that idea!

you're right, it's just hard to remind myself of the positives sometimes. health is the most important part.

yeah, you must have naturally elastic skin and didn't gain much weight from pregnancy? i gained a helluva lot, and even more after that.

omg exactly! it's frankly mortifying at times! i feel kind of gypped... seriously how is it possible that our faces get wrinklier? intellectually, i understand that our faces have a layer of fat underneath, so it we lose weight the skin will be a little emptier. but seeing the reality on my own face is shocking.

you are saying exactly what i'm feeling. i always tended to get mistaken for someone who is younger and in some ways i am not grown up. and it's not like i've had many years to slowly get used to these signs of aging - it accelerates as i lose more weight. it feels so sudden and drastic, even though it is a slow and steady weight loss.

but you're right - we will be healthier for it.

I actually got tons of stretch marks during puberty. It was mostly from weight gain because of the pills I was on for seizures so they always made me hungry. But I gained it fast is why but pregnancy, I didn't gain much and my tummy must have had a lot of elastic. I even got a lot on my breasts too when they grew when I was 11 and 12.

oh, okay. so you had gotten some before, too. it seems like a lot of women get them sooner or later. it's good you didn't gain too much weight during pregnancy.

My first stretch marks appeared when I hit puberty, around 12 years old. It must have had something to do with a growth spurt.

When I lost weight a few years back I was annoyed because it seemed to leave my chest before anywhere else. My weight watchers leader said it would adjust itself and it did. It's funny how weight loss can stir up a whole new set of body image issues.

There are ways of hiding stretch marks and flabby skin, whether hiding it under clothes that show odd a new figure, like skinny jeans. I used to have a pair of those not-your-daughters-jeans. Makeup and hair tricks can help show off beat features.

Self tanners can hide flaws. Not real tanning...that would cause skin damage. But my mom uses self tanner to hide spider veins on her legs during the summer.

There are products at the drug store that claim to tighten skin. Some have caffeine as an active ingredient. Not sure how well those products work. There are also things that help fade stretch marks.

Congrats on the weight loss!

thanks, it hasn't been easy.

those are some really great tips! self-tanner never occurred to me - thanks so much for that. i do wear skinny jeans, and i agree with you that they are very good at highlighting a slimmer figure. they hold things up where they belong lol.

my stretch marks are faded, but my skin still retained the bumpy texture. i wonder if there is a help for that, or if it will eventually improve.
