How far back can we go in posting in threads

Whats the date when we cannot post in that thread anymore? And is that limit throughout or do some sections follow other rules?

This is an interesting question because in other forums you get flamed for making new topics that were discuss about two years ago. I think as a rule of thumb, six months but that's my guess

There's no official cut off, but I don't think it's a good idea to ressurect threads that are too old. Over a year dormant is too old if you ask me. Six months is probably a good rule of thumb.

If you find an old thread with something you want to talk about, simply create a new thread with the themes or points from it you want to discuss.

I'd say it also depends on the subject matter too; so for example if it is a topic in the Haven where someone is going through a tough time even after a few weeks it may be time to let the topic rest because the OP may have moved on from whatever their original problem was, bumping the thread may just reopen wounds.

If the topic is not of a personal nature then six months sounds like a reasonable limit. Bear in mind that for any older topics that some, or even most of the original posters, may no longer be active on WP anyway. I've seen posts replying to people who have left WP several years ago!

On the Nsider forums, the cut off is seven days. After that, you can't bump it but they have exceptions but I find it confusing so I'd rather not bump them at all. But I don't go there anymore anyway.

I think seven days is extreme and at another forum I bumped a three week topic and someone made a fuss about it so it just made me want to bump more topics to piss him off because he is a jerk. He was so rude about it so I was like I will just do it to piss him off. I don't go to that forum much either.

On another forum the cut off date is three months I think and then it automatically locks.

I think a topic can be bumped no matter how old it is but it depends on the thread like in the quiz and games section, any thread can get bumped there no matter how old it is because they're just random threads. Same as if you see random threads like "What year were you born in?" I think that is acceptable to be bumped or "Have you ever been arrested?" or "Have you ever gotten pulled over?" but it's annoying when people reply to posts by people who don't even go to the forum anymore. Look at the dates people and their profiles and when they last made a post here. If it's been months or years since they have made one, a high chance they do not even come here anymore so leave it be.

I think a cutoff point really needs to be established here. As much as I want to reply to old threads sometimes, I don't because I am unsure of its acceptability.
I think the 6 month idea is reasonable.

Trust me, don't do that here.
