No such thing as "private" Facebook profiles.
Sorry to break it to you.
They can be seen by anyone who really wants to see them. And not illegally, either.
As for the email address: it doesn't really matter about having separate ones, as long as your password is hard to crack. What matters is not emailing relative strangers from an account that shows your real name. Just use initials.
I've lost count of the number of people I've met online who email me from an account that shows their real name and surname. That and their hometown is enough for anyone to find out their current address online on websites such as 192.com, leaving themselves open to stalkers.
I've had several email exchanges with people on dating websites who claim to be this or that. From doing a bit of googling once they have stupidly given away their real identity, it's interesting finding out who they really are, what they really get up to on the internet, and how many lies they told in their profiles.
Their idiocy just blows me away.
No one can see my wall or photos except profile ones. No one can see where I have work or where I do. I have hidden my friends and family from the public. When you go to my profile, you will see nothing but the profile pictures. There is nothing in my profile that is visible for everyone to see that would be used against me unless they don't want to hire someone with kids lol.
Go to my myspace profile, you will only see my profile picture and nothing else. No blogs, no status, nothing. It's to hide from everyone who isn't on my friends and I will never add my boss or anyone from work to my facebook. Plus you can hide your profile from the search so your profile won't pop up, even in a search engine on google. But then that means your friends and family can't find you so I don't even have that feature enabled because of it.
About email addresses, people in real life can go online and google it, same as people from work who are hiring. Places you have your email address on pop up and they will see what sites you have registered at unless you have your email address hidden from the public that only mods and admins can see. But they can do a google on your email address too to see what other places you have gone to. Google search one of mine, you see I have AS because one of the old Yahoo groups pops up I was in when I was in my late teens. But that can be fixed if I use a whole different email address when looking for jobs so nothing pops up when they decide to google search it because I had never used it online or not put down an email address at all.
Besides I don't even have a land line so it's very unlikely my address will show up online. Even do a search on my name and maiden last name, different websites pop up and lot of them aren't even me. I suppose someone would think they are all me and think I have lied because they couldn't figure out I am not the only person with that name. Perhaps that is what happened with you when you did a search on those people? Sometimes people use a first and last name in their email address and it's just an alias than their real name. It's just amazing how many people out there have the same name as me.

Yes, OK; we get the idea. You sound like you've been brainwashed.
That's what they'd have you believe. If you choose to believe that, and you choose to voluntarily give away your personal information and pics to sites such as Facebook, fair enough.
"Private" Facebook profiles can be found in several ways. I know this from experience.

It's not about having a landline.
Ever filled in a census form or an electoral roll?
Then your name and address are on the Internet, whether you like it or not. They'll be on 192.com (UK). If you're from the US or elsewhere, I'm sure there are equivalent sites. Spokeo is the major one for profiling online activity, and Pipl runs a close second. Spokeo majors on grabbing data from the major sites such as MSN, Amazon, Facebook etc. Avoid them like the plague (or if you MUST use them, give as little as possible away).
People should stop being so gullible and stop thinking that Google is the only way to find out stuff. It isn't. Just because Google throws up nothing on you doesn't mean you're safe.
