UCAS Clearing (UK people only)

I applied for university through UCAS this year, but I've now been put through to clearing and I was just wondering what exactly do I have to do to get a place with this Clearing thing?

Anyone else in this situation?

If I remember correctly the day the a level results come out the universities know whether they have enough people to fill the courses or not and they make a list of all the courses they still have places on. The date that the list will be published this year is the 18th August, so my advice would be on that day to buy a national newspaper which says on the front of it clearing list in here. Im fairly sure the Telegraph newspaper has it inside, it's a giant list of all the universities and what courses they still have places on. You may also be able to see it online.

You can look through to see if any of the places you fancy going to has a course that you want to study and then you should ring them or get someone else to ring on your behalf and the university staff will take your details and maybe ask about your education and why you want to do the course and they will consider whether they want you on the course. Even if you think your grades or experience may not be good enough to be accepted onto a course you should give the university a ring and ask, I think this because they have put the courses in the clearing list because they cant find enough people to fill all the places, so there is a good chance they will say oh ok we will relax the entry requirements for you because we need some more students to make this course worth running.

When I went to university the original entry requirements for my course were 3 Cs at A-level but when I got there some people had got on to the course with 3 Ds so it is always worth trying to beg you way onto a course you really want to do. Also I wouldnt agree that if you would not be able to cope if you didnt get the grades they were asking for originally because in the first year they usually just teach the A-level basics to make sure you have a good general knowledge of the subject before they introduce the more difficult stuff.
