The 'religion of peace' thread was recently locked immediately after I posted on it, and Hyperlexian posted this

----
it is ok to disagree with the tenets or practices of a religion but it is not ok to paint all members of a religion with the same brush. one poster was correct - technically this isn't racism. however, it involves highly offensive generalisations that are just as bad as any racism or sexism.

i would like to believe that WrongPlanet is a place where people of all religions can feel welcome. if anyone cannot live with that, then there are sites that will tolerate your anti-islam sentiments.

----

I'm a little confused because I can't find a single post in that thread that could read as either

paint all members of a religion with the same brush
or
highly offensive generalisations

Have some offensive post been deleted from the thread? If they haven't could you point to the unacceptable posts and explain what I am I missing for future reference?

Thanks.

Would it possible for a moderator to explain what was so offensive in that thread and why a blatantly and obviously anti-Semitic thread here

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt179883.html

is allowed to continue unchecked whereas a thread with no crass generalisations gets locked?

It does appear to be an extreme double standard?

I might add that I specifically didn't tar all adherents of Islam with the same brush in that thread. Indeed, I mentioned how some do integrate here but that we do have our share of problems with extremist Muslims.

Slow down there a little bit, you're jumping to (extreme) conclusions.

It's a matter of attention and resources. Some threads get complained about... we look at them. Some don't... we can't give every thread on WP equal scrutiny.

It's way, way past my bedtime, so I'll check your anti-semitic thread report a thorough scrutiny in the morning if another mod hasn't gotten to it.

whooooooaaaaa i locked that thread too - found it all by myself.... because nobody reported it directly to a moderator or on the mdoerator attention thread at the top of this forum.

yes the thread is offensive. the antisemitism was less blatant than the obvious racism and borderline homophobia though.

Tequila, people can easily pop over to that thread and see exactly what you said, so there isn't much question remaining. if you are at all uncertain as to whether a post crosses a line, just run it by a moderator before clicking "submit". we can assist you with navigating the Rules.

you were not the only person who crossed the line in the thread, so i am not intedning to single you out (except that YOU brought it up).

EDIT: on the anti-islam thread i also posted a note that i sent PMs to the people who had crossed a line.

Needless to say, I still disagree with your decision and don't believe my comments were anti-Islam (particularly my comments you highlighted regarding the behaviour and dress sense of some of its adherents). That said, for the good of the board (and the safety of my account!) I'll button it. It doesn't make the strength of feeling go away but I'll not create a fuss.
