Taupey, if it helps any - checking various technical, network-related stuff from here made it perfectly clear that the problem was located at the WP end of things. It wasn't something done locally to try and prevent users accessing WP.
Also, different browsers on different systems may display a site connection problem in different ways - and typically, many of those aren't even helpful.
Hey Cornflake, again, it was completely different than that. It was not a WrongPlanet "time out" or "busy" page. I know what those are and what they look like. I believe this was a deliberate expression of anger. But thank you for the suggestions, that's kind of you. I sincerely appreciate you trying to help me.

Here's what you should have seen through the event:
Pages failing to load entirely (displaying either a "Connection Reset" or "Connection Timeout")
Pages taking an extremely long time to load
Pages loading partially and then stopping
Loading the WP "busy" page (this would have been a rare occurance, more often nothing would load)
If you were to do a traceroute or ping, you would have seen anywhere between 5% to 30% packet loss
What you would *not* have seen:
DNS errors of any kind
Loading an entirely different page
So, if what you were seeing was soo different, what exactly *were* you seeing?
Just to add to the spice; I tried to move a thread earlier today but clicking on to the link to the thread changed my status to not being logged in on that new tab. The site was then confused. I was logged in on one tab and had all my moderator buttons etc, but on the other tab I wasn't even logged on. Bizarre.
I'm also experiencing a little "jump to the right" when each page loads... like the time warp song! ![]()

You know, I have never spoken with you sliqua-jacooter, well not that I know of anyway. But I do know that I do not like the way you are approaching me because it's outright rude, far too familar and extremely unprofessional especially if you are trying to be a representative for Alex.
And I get the distinct feeling that you are trying to impress and intimidate me and probably everyone else that is reading this thread with your knowledge of computers. They might be, but I'm not.
I have already stated what I saw happen. Did you not read what I wrote or do you just want to argue with me about it because you would like to think you know what I saw and experienced and/or you would like to make others think you know what I saw and expierenced as well and that I have absolutely no idea what I saw and experienced even though I was the only one sitting in front of my computer and experiencing it!?
I am only going to say this one more time so read carefully and feel free to reread it as many times as you like or need to.
After hearing what other's have said they saw and knowing what I saw and experienced, I seriously doubt that it's a WrongPlanet issue. One would think at this point in time it would not even concern you anymore. Since you are still so rudely concerned, I have to wonder why you are and why you want to argue with me and discredit what I have already said, like I have no idea what I am talking about even though it happened to me and on my computer.
So why are you doing this? What is your real agenda sliqua-jcooter or whoever you really are in real life? Are you trying to make everyone think you're "all knowing" like a god? Do you hate women because you've had bad experiences with them in the past and you think were all alike? What is it that you are so rudely trying to get out of all of this and why?
As I said before, I have already contacted the FCC and IC3/FBI. Don't you realize that people can get in trouble for filing a false reports with them. I am being extremely serious here. I have already told everyone "Thank You" for responding, I really appreciated it. I have nothing more to say to you or anyone else here about this incident that I have not already said before.
Now if you continue to try to argue, you are going to have to do it with yourself. I am not in the best of health and the stress of arguing with anyone about anything does nothing but make my health worse and you are not worth it.

First of all, I'm not representing anyone but myself on this forum. Secondly, I'm not trying to "impress" anyone. I listed that list not because I'm some magical wizard who knows what happened - but because at the time you posted, there *was* an issue with WP, and I know exactly what it was because I own the company that hosts the WP servers.
Now, the reason I asked you what you were seeing is because your first post describes *exactly* what you should have seen as related to our network issue: "Everytime I click a link to download a page, the page will come up grey and there will be some advertising at the top but the rest of the page will stay blank for a while then the rest of the page will quickly appear."
This corresponds exactly with what everyone else said, as well as two of the things I listed: "Pages taking an extremely long time to load // Pages loading partially and then stopping "
The other reason I'm concerned with this post is if someone truly is preventing you from accessing WP, they're spoofing *my* network and IP address space assigned to me by ARIN; and I have a vested interest in tracking them down and having them prosecuted, civilly and criminally.
However, based on the description you provided, it sounds as if you were, in fact, affected by our network outage, unless there's something specific that I'm missing.

Also, things aren't entirely "back to normal" yet. We removed the failing equipment from the network - but we have to replace it at some point, we're looking at Sunday right now, but that's entirely subject to change. There's a chance that when we re-introduce the router things will go haywire again, and even if everything goes 100% according to plan there's going to be a brief period of time where some people will have issues (anywhere from <1 minute to ~10 minutes).
I'll try to keep everybody here updated as best I can - but at this point we haven't even sent a maintenance notification out to customers, so a lot of things are still completely up in the air.
