What does Early Intervention Consist of Where You Live?

My 4 year old Daughter has recently been diagnosed with HFA/AS and there seems to be lots of government funding with early intervention. In fact we were surprised to see how big the Autism Industry is where we are. Once we got the diagnosis we were given a list of Private Government Funded Autism Preschools as well as Agencies that provide Aides in the classroom (we had to pick one). We also received Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy for one hour a week as well as access to a Child Psychologist. There is also in home support based care going on need that works on things like feeding and bathing (if needed). Anyway I am wondering what is typical elsewhere. Like how much intervention do your kids get and how much is needed?

I should mention that all this ends at 6 years old or when the child is completed Kindergarten.

It's similar here. We had Early Intervention services at home with a Speech Language Pathologist, and a Special Education teacher until my son was three. (twice per week for an hour with each) Now he is in a preschool program that is run by a certified Special ed teacher, and he receives Speech services twice per week.

From what I've heard, the services are very generous until kindergarten. Here they "try" (as in not always successful) to practice full inclusion. This is when a child who needs extra services receives them within the regular classroom with their typically developing peers. They are supposed to only be pulled out to a seperate space if the activity the provider wants to do cannot be done within the classroom.

My daughter transitioned into kindergarten this past fall, so we had to meet and get used to a whole new group of people. So far so good!

Here it is only 0-3 where you get county EI. I don't know all of what it entails since it varies specifically with your child's needs and we did not get a diagnosis until our son was 4. Then it falls under the school district who tries to do as little as they can (at least here.)

Well here in Japan there is no such thing.

IE will visit your home from 0-3 years of age after that they try to manipulate you into sending your child off to preschool whether they're ready for it or not. Edit: Also if the child is affected enough they may qualify for SSI, I think the highest amount is somewhere around $700 a month until they are 18 as long as they meet the criteria.

in Melbourne (Australia) we get $12,000 funding which can be used for therapy (with a list of approved therapists) and aides until the child is 7. There are also other therapies available should the need arise if the funding runs out. We have access to teachers' aides at kinder and school but this depends on the severity of the autism. There is also respite care and therapy available for parents needed.
