New... A family in a whole lotta hurt and misery.
Hi, Mulgamutt and welcome.
My partner and I have had major moments of falling apart as a couple and it's awful. I really do feel for you, I know you've already got a full plate. If you value your relationship, though, get help because you need each other's support through this stuff. If you can find some way for the two of you to spend time alone together it could help to strengthen what's good between you. And if you aren't getting it, you both need to find time for yourself when you can relax and take care of yourself.
You might want to look into relaxation techniques for both you and your son. My son has learned to take deep breaths when he's upset and it does help... doesn't mean he's always willing to do it, but it helps when he's willing. And I have had to remind myself many, many times to take a deep breath myself. It gets rough. It really does. But maybe you guys can both find somethign that works.
best of luck to you!
Vince,
You mention Haircuts and Sound. I cannot even beging to tell you the knock down fights I have had with my 6 yr old, but you already know. It's quite amazing how strong they are. Following a haircut I felt like I had run a marathon!
I would like to make a suggestion if I may. You mentioned the auditory issues, like with the buzzing of the clippers. Try some noise reduction headphones. They work on the concept of repetitive noise cancellation. There are a couple of types that are relatively inexpensive, but they all allow for additional music input. I didn't see any mention that he didn't like music. Let him wear them during the haircut and outings. It worked for our son and kept him calmer during outings.
You came to the right place!
