She's always so rude to me. If I get a few problems wrong, she just yells at me. I don't get an explanation if I ask, she just says I should know. I have the kind of Migraines that have Auras, so I can't really concentrate well know matter how hard I try. The only way to help them is to drink water since I don't take any medication. My Algebra teacher doesn't allow me to even get water since the school limited the amount you can go to the bathroom or drink water each quarter. I'm not allowed to bring a water bottle since no one trusts us to bring them to school (unless they're with lunch) since so many people brought vodka. Of course my teacher things these migraine issues are either me joking around or part of my Asperger's, so she just yells at me like I'm a little kid. I can't fix the water issue because I'm not diagnosed by a doctor that I have migraines, but migraines that have auras run in both sides of my family and it's WAY to hard NOT to notice them. My Aid knows I have Migraines and she's nice, but I get into such a bad mood from being yelled at AND having a migraine at the same time. I don't yell at the aid, but I'm usually feel super awful in that class.

Well why don't you do some extra work on algebra so just to 'beat her'? :P
Declare a war and it might even benefit you. Maths is something that is learnt the best by oneself anyway, imo, and then it is you who is in control.
Regarding water - could your parents talk to her? Or write a note? Wouldn't that be enough?

I feel your pain! There's so much focus on stopping bullying but they ignore the fact that it's the teachers who are doing all the bullying! Maybe you can talk to your aide and she can help you somehow...

I have to admire you for saying no to all drugs, not just the ones your peers try to give you. Have you figured out why you get migranes? (If they're stress-related, putting you with a better teacher would make much more sense than putting you on medication.)

Your real problem seems to be a lack of respect from your algebra teacher. A lot of people seem to think students should respect their teachers, but that teachers needn't respect their pupils. Curiously, my algebra teacher also does not respect me. I wonder if this is common phenomenon amidst algebra teachers.

i can't help thinking that for every jaime escalante, there are a thousand ted kaczinski's [in NON-unabomer mode] whose classroom teaching style was to keep his back to his students while mumbling and furiously scribbling equations on the blackboard, silently communicating to his students the survivalist meme of "sink or swim."

 I remember 9th grade taking Algebra One. Most of the students failed! Only one girl got a C, but the rest of us either got D's or F's. The teacher was AWFUL. I did get a tutor that summer and it did help. I had to retake Algebra One in 10th grade and got an A. I never was one to like math nor was good at it.

Right now I'm attempting college and doing an Algebra refresher class. It's done through a computer program that checks your work. If you get it wrong you just keep at it till you figure it out. Some of it makes sense and some of it is just baffling and gives me a hard time.

I feel the problem is Math is an old language that should be overhauled. I think most people can understand numbers and even apply logic, but the way some things are expressed in Algebra is confusing. Sometimes I feel like working in Algebra would be like working with a really old operating system like a DOS Computer before Windows.

Also to often experienced people demonstrating Algebra jump right to expressing it with the sort of short hand version. 6y is 6 X y. If necessary compressing some of the Math "Language" should be delayed. Doing so tends to hide math functions from the students.

I don't know what you could do about the migraines, but I had a math teacher last semester who was a little crazy. I got some tutoring and found a few helpful websites, so I managed to make a B. I hope that class gets better for you.

You could always post questions about bits that are baffling. I wouldn't want to just do a homework problem for someone, but I could explain how something works or what something means.

Thanks. This college program is offering different study and tutoring option. The purchase of the text book even includes access to a tutor on the phone.

I think if I get good help when I'm stumped I can work through it.

Also I call it baffling because it's hard to imagine any real world application for what I'm doing in these equations.

I'm near my breaking point with the Algebra teacher. She literally said I don't THINK when I do math. She loves to publically humiliate me and make me look like an idiot. I hate her SO MUCH. I don't hate people easily but there are so many words that describe her and all of them are NOT appropriate to say on a family friendly site.

My grade 9 math teacher was sort of like that. She would say "What do you mean you don't understand?" if you asked for help. If you didn't do her homework, she would ask you why and try to come up with a solution to the "problem". Once, i didn't do my homework because I was too tired and she said "Have you sleeping all right?" in front of the whole class! She also taught really fast and I have a bit of math anxiety, even though my teachers are supposed to allow me to, she didn't allow me to leave the classroom to do work in a setting where I'd be less anxious. She also only let kids take 2 minutes if they needed to use the washroom. It took 30-45 seconds just to GET to the washroom!
