I spent my entire high school days in dire unhappiness, due to the anti-intellectual mob. I was called a 'snob', as they assumed I thought I was better than then. But, I was just good at school work and shy and never even considered that I might be 'better' than anyone else. I hope (and think) things are changing, for my daughter's sake.

Well, in country I live, the anti-intellectualism is only an issue among the older working class people due to the nature of previous communist regime that perceived intelectuals as people who can actually think for themselves and are therefore threat to socialism :D. But today the anti-intellectualism seems not to be an issue. Even at primary school, I got teased and bullied a lot, but never because of my intellect; quite the opposite, although I was usually excluded from any class activities because I was uncool and weird, whenever there was some school competition in any logical subject (games such as chess, checkers or expanded version of tic-tac-toe, mathematics), I got almost always unanimously chosen by my class to represent them.....

I have suffered and benefited form my sharp intellectual focus.

In my option anti-intellectualism is a grave treat to aspies.
If you look at all of the genocides in the last century this was often a main motivation.
Pol Pot in Cambodia and Joseph Stalin are prime examples of this. In there efforts to eliminate "intellectuals" they caused mass suffering and death to everyone and gravely damage the countries they ruled.
