email to stop watching topic issue

It always tells me to log in. I do that, then it says the topic does not exist because it is based around the reply in the link. Is there any way to have it redirect to the topic itself? It's frustrating when I close the email tab to have to re-open it and then hit unwatch, when it should follow the thread rather than the response in the URL.
