The Wrong Planet forums display like crap on my iPhone 4S, whether the device is in portrait or landscape orientation, requiring a lot of pinching and zooming to navigate, so I did my due diligence, and here's what I've found already posted on the forums about a mobile-friendly version of this site:

Tapatalk appears to be a paid app: Both forum owners and mobile-device users have to pay, from what I gather from a quick investigation (the Apple App Store is showing a price of $2.99 USD for the iPhone version). The forum software Wrong Planet uses, phpBB, supports theming although Wrong Planet does not currently offer a mobile theme/style.

Something as simple as a mobile theme or CSS stylesheet would eliminate the problem with repeatedly pinching and zooming. What are people's thoughts?

Maybe we the end users can just do it ourselves: Attention, Programmers: Want to Make Wrong Planet Mobile? It may be a lot of effort just for Wrong Planet, but if we make it generalizable, it could possibly also apply to other phpBB forums and eventually maybe non-phpBB forums too.

WP isn't stock phpBB. Doing *anything* to the code is prohibitively difficult.
