No complaints at all here. Sounds like there might of been a glitch of somekind, considering that per Hyperlexians comments, the newsletter option hasn't been working, even if someone wanted to receive one previously. Interesting too, the article was directed at Fathers. Not likely that comprises more than 10% of the 66,000 that it appears the email went out to.

However, just out of curiosity, my sister received an email on an email account she didn't provide to Wrong Planet, from a Gmail account on her mobile phone. Google is pervasive in it's methods of sharing information, however considering different user names and passwords, it's interesting to me that the process was able to match up the two email addresses and send the newsletter to the email address not provided to Wrong Planet, as well as the one provided.

Anyone have any idea how that works?

She wasn't upset, but was perplexed that she received the newsletter on an e-mail address that wasn't provided to Wrongplanet. If she were upset, I'm guessing that her argument would be with Google for sharing the email address with Wrongplanet. I don't think Wrong planet could have got it without Google's permission.

I don't have a gmail account on my mobile phone, but do have a regular gmail account on my computer, not provided to wrong planet. I didn't get an email from wrong planet on that account, so perhaps the mobile phone account makes a difference.

Either way, unsolicited e-mail is spam. And just for everyone's information:

From the looks of it, it seems that one of Plank's henchmen is one of those behind the spamming. Hmm. I smell something fishy here. Does this remind me of an adversary I have had here? Hah.

Do you seriously think that because the server has my company's name in it, that means I'm somehow complicit in it's sending? Seriously, the funniest thing I've read in a long time.

Might an easier explination be that Plank is using his server (that he gets from us) to send this email, and that server's name just so happens to be wrongplanet.sliqua.com?

So, since Alex pays your company for service and you are the owner of the servers then:
I hold you solely responsible for the one unsolicited email that I received, which obviously proves that you one of Alex's henchman. :) :)

Ok, seriously everyone it is just one email. Move along.

That answered my questions, sliqua-jcooter. Guilty as charged. Enough said.

You're right, jackbus01. I guess we can move on, as the overzealous "muttawa" might do their thing again, which includes:
- defending spam
- gagging users posting genuine complaints
- doing their duties as PR mouthpieces for the "Dear Leader" and being ineffective at it
- too many to mention

Just idle curiosity theimperiousdork, and I'm not much fussed either way - but what is it you hope to achieve by making these rather odd accusations and strange ranty posts?

Cornflake, I'll answer that with a quote from Robert Langford in Dan Brown's novel "The da Vinci Code":

Quote:
"You might ask, but it’s a long story and we have very little time."

The librarian's response to what Langford said holds what I really want to say. I hope that answered your question.

Heh. Not in the slightest, so I think I'll just take that as "nothing" to save some time.

I just got the spam re an article here about Mother's Day, even though I have set my profile so that I do not get sent emails. How about respecting people's wishes? Extremely annoyed about this, especially as it's the usual stuff about how much the poor parents suffer, poor darlings. Doesn't it make you wish you'd been aborted? God this angers me. I'm blocking the address that was sent from. I'll leave altogether if it happens again.
