I wish I could change my username. Like myspace, you could change your display name. I'd like to do that.

That is currently not possible (by design). And likely never will be possible. Changing usernames is designed to be something not easily done.

Why has it been made so we can't change it? I'm beginning to regret using my normal online name. I spend all my time social networking, and getting into arguments, I'd hate for someone I talk to online to find this. I'm fairly open about most things, I just don't want strangers on the Internet using private things to their advantage.

It is the way most internet forums are. I don't wish to sound unsympathetic but you should have thought about your username before using the same one here too. Anyone typing it into Google will likely find every forum you participate in if you use it on multiple forums. Not a wise move. Too late now.

It be wise to start using different usernames for each forums and websites you go to and use a totally different screen name for your IMs. I would also recommend getting a new email address and only use it for real life, never use it online when you register on forums or even post it in public. That way you make it more difficult for people to look you up when they wish to type in your username. It may be too late now but it's not too late to start when you register in the future on another forum. Not too late to get a new screen name of course.

Thanks for the advice :). I already do, do that, but didn't think I'd end up posting such private things on this website :/. I knew what I was doing when I was doing it, I just wasn't going to let anyone stop me from doing, what I wanted to do. Does that make sense? :S

Really? I've been able to change my name on every other forum I use.
I know this, I used my normal name, because I thought I might make friends on here, and thought it would make it easier for them to find me on other websites. I did think about people being able to find me through Google, but didn't think I'd end up wanting to post such personal things.

Yes. Everyone in the whole wide world pays attention to you, because you're just that fascinating.

Wow - Nice sarcasm

My point still stands: most people are not interested enough in you (or just about anyone else) that they will investigate everything done by people with your username. I bet that the only people who are aware of you "being a tw*tstain" on that forum are those who've read this thread: not even close to being "everyone".

My point stands that it is possible that people *do* know.

Of course it's possible, just most likely not as many as you're worrying it is.

You don't know how many I'm worrying. I know most people aren't that bothered, but I've come across quite a few who are.
