When you close the browser (change suggestion)

I find it a bit annoying sometimes how when you close the browser on WP how it 'assumes' that you've read all the threads and marks them as such. I know this can be useful in some situations, but more often than not, I can inadvertently close the browser and lose all the marked topics, and sometimes I just CANNOT be bothered to go back and read through all the newly marked posts and figure out if I've read it or not.

Is this something which can be altered? I wouldn't mind if I could turn it off somehow.

Anyone else get this?

My pet peeve is that when you close the browser it doesn't log you out. I must have been logged on for six months when in reality I hadn't been to this site the entire time.

I don't mind the non-logging out. Just so long as you're not posting then you shouldn't be noticed.
